Watch: Emotional ‘Baggage’ Check – Amusing Stop-Motion Short Film

Time for a peek inside that baggage. Thanks to our friends over at Short of the Week, here's a fantastic new animated short to enjoy. Baggage is a 5-min stop-motion animated film from Australian filmmaker Lucy Davidson. After working on Adam Elliot's Memoir of a Snail in Australia, she was selected to work at the Aardman Animation Studios Academy and create this film as her own personal project. The short is a funny riff of "emotional baggage" and the secrets hidden within each & every one of us. Three girlfriends check in their baggage at the airport, but one is carrying a little more than the others. Can she hide what's inside? With the voices of Eve Eloise Gilbert, Sophie Schoorman, Dominik Shields, and Camillo Sancisi. This has a very funny Aardman vibe to it, with the characters being so emotive. But it also feels like its own creation sharing the ideas in Lucy's mind and what she wants us to think about when we're out in the world. Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip on this debuting online. Brief intro from YouTube: "Three girlfriends check in their baggage at the airport, but one is carrying a […]

Official Trailer for ITVX’s ‘Code of Silence’ Series About a Lip-Reader

"Just stick to lip reading. Leave the detection to us." BritBox has revealed the official US trailer for a British streaming series titled Code of Silence, a crime thriller from ITVX. Created by writer Catherine Moulton, Code of Silence just launched in the UK in May - it'll be streaming on BritBox in the US later this month. Alison Woods, a Deaf caterer, works to support her mother, and herself by working at a canteen at a police station. Alison is asked by the police to lip-read conversations with bad criminals - she helps them track a criminal gang plotting a jewellery heist. Alison starts to fall for one of the suspects when she begins to work undercover, but will not abandon the investigation. Starring Rose Ayling-Ellis as Alison, Kieron Moore as Liam, with Charlotte Ritchie, Andrew Buchan, Nathan Armarkwei Laryea, Joe Absolom, and Beth Goddard. Enthralling Trailer for ‘Boys Go to Jupiter’ Film with Unique Animation

"Is this really how you want to spend your whole life, just bumming around forever?" Whoa this looks fun. Cartuna has revealed the trailer for an indie animated film called Boys Go to Jupiter, the first feature by animator / 3D artist Julian Glander. This first premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and played at many other festivals including Nashville and Denver. A teenager in suburban Florida desperately hustles to make $5,000 in this dreamy and surreal animated flick. Billy is forced to make hard choices about love, friendship, and how far he'll go for financial security in a world ruled by capitalism in this absurdist, musical take on a coming-of-age comedy. With the voices of Jack Corbett, Tavi Gevinson, Elsie Fisher, Janeane Garofalo, Julio Torres, Max Wittert, & Demi Adejuyigbe. Inspired by Google Street View excursions through the streets of Tampa, Florida, the nostalgia of youth and growing up in the suburbs, and an eagerness to examine the capitalism & techno-feudalism in modern society, Boys Go to Jupiter was self-produced & animated entirely over 90 days using Blender (same as Flow). I'm so fascinated by this! It looks creative and unique and wildly entertaining in quirky, […]

"What would they do? Shoot everyone?" Yes, probably. Don't mess with them. Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer for the bonkers true story documentary Trainwreck: Storm Area 51, looking back at the infamous "Storm Area 51" viral craze. This is part of the Trainwreck doc series on Netflix - "delve into the spiraling disasters & epic fails that the world could not look away from." (Also see Trainwreck: Balloon Boy.) A viral Facebook event posted in 2019 to storm Area 51 (located in Nevada) draws millions of signups, prompting military warnings. As memes spread about Naruto-running past bullets, UFO hunters galore, and internet personalities converge for what could be a desert party or clash. Some joke, "If we Naruto run we can move faster than their bullets" but will a crazy party in the desert turn into a deadly confrontation? Featuring an epic ensemble cast of meme lords, military commanders, UFO hunters, sexy aliens and YouTubers, this is the ultimate story of the internet bursting into the real world... Must Watch: ‘The Replicant’ Hand-Drawn Animated Promo for LGN

Must Watch: ‘The Replicant’ Hand-Drawn Animated Promo for LGN

"Do androids dream of wet desires?" Does anyone need fancy new clothes? A French fashion brand called LGN (short for the designer Louis-Gabriel Nouchi) has revealed their new promo titled The Replicant and it's a must watch. It's a 2-min, hand-drawn animated short film featuring metallic humanoids posing & interacting – in celebration of and announcing the LGN Spring/Summer '26 collection. It's very obviously inspired by Blade Runner, literally even the name The Replicant like Deckard, but also feels distinct in its own way with these robotic models doing their thing. The short is created by an animation shop called Wizz Studio based near Paris, animated by a French animation duo known as Milli. I'm usually not into fashion, but this is legit dope. Slick style, stunning animation, a clever concept and fresh way to promote clothing. It also reminds me of French electronica duo Daft Punk's iconic 2003 anime music video, aka Interstella 5555, since these 'bots remind me of those, too. I'm always excited about any new hand-drawn animation. Enjoy. Thanks to Catsuka for the tip. Quick intro from YouTube: "The Replicant is a ballet of metallic humanoids, their shadows brushing & merging. Endlessly repeating. Bodies multiply in […]

Riz Ahmed & Lily James in ‘Relay’ Corporate Corruption Thriller Trailer

"Has it ever gone wrong?" "Sometimes we have to walk away..." Bleecker Street has unveiled the trailer for a movie called Relay, a clever thriller from filmmaker David Mackenzie (of Hallam Foe, Spread, Perfect Sense, Starred Up, Hell or High Water). This first premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival to mixed reviews, and it just played at this year's Tribeca Film Festival as well. A world-class "fixer" is enlisted by an alluring, unpredictable whistleblower in a "twisty, confident homage to classic paranoid thrillers". A broker of lucrative payoffs between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten them breaks his own rules when a new client seeks his protection to stay alive. TIFF says the film is "riddled with ingenious feats of misdirection, novel set pieces, and jaw-dropping twists that would have made Hitchcock proud." Starring Riz Ahmed & Lily James, along with Sam Worthington, Willa Fitzgerald, Matthew Maher, Mike Holt, and Eisa Davis. The film currently has 81% on RT, and looks intriguing enough to watch. Opening in theaters starting in August this summer. This plot seems like it goes really over-the-top crazy at some point. Cool Trailer for Trost’s ‘The Waves of Madness’ Side-Scrolling Movie

"If you get this message - don't send help!" Umbrella Ent. has revealed an official trailer for an indie action horror film titled The Waves of Madness, from filmmaker Jason Trost. This trailer originally debuted a few months ago, but we're just catching up with it now (thanks to a tip from Live for Film). It's described as the first side-scrolling film ever, using the old video game side-scroller style to tell this B&W story. A special agent is dispatched to investigate a distress call from a round-the-world cruise, only to find the ship eerily abandoned and haunted by a malevolent force that twists sanity into terror. Starring Jason Trost, Tallay Wickham, Ryan Gibson. The indie film was made "for just $20,000 in a single studio apartment with a crew of three... Trost also [did] the entire post-production himself in Final Cut Pro, using practical effects, in-camera trickery, and hand-built digital matte backgrounds to evoke a dreamlike, side-on horror world." Awesome. The film is barely 68 minutes and looks like it might just be a totally entertaining indie creation. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Jason Trost's film The Waves of Madness, from YouTube: "You won't accept the truth!" […]

Official US Trailer for Norwegian Film ‘Dreams’ Starring Ella Øverbye

"That's why I wrote it down. To keep it with me." Strand Releasing has unveiled an official US trailer for an award-winning Norwegian indie film titled Dreams, the final film in the trilogy from filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud. Dreams, along with Love and Sex, originally premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. In a very weak competition selection, it ended up winning the Golden Bear top prize at Berlinale, because it was one of the better films in the entire line-up. At the start of Dreams, Johanne documents her intense crush on her French teacher Johanna. Her mother and grandmother end up reading these intimate writings. They're both horrified by the content but taken by the powerful writing & story. Johanne navigates romantic ideals vs reality, exploring emotions of self-discovery, love, sexuality. A coming-of-age story about discovering she's a lesbian. Starring Ella Øverbye as Johanne, with Ane Dahl Torp, Selome Emnetu, Anne Marit Jacobsen, and Andrine Sæther. I'm a fan of this film (here's my review) mainly because of the terrific score (from composer Anna Berg) and how light and lovely and charming the film is to explore. Here's the official US trailer (+ new poster) for […]
