“You and I both know – without me, you lose that ranch.” Dang this looks good! Sony Pictures Classics has debuted a second trailer for the film East of Wall, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival to many rave reviews. This marks the feature directorial debut of talented newcomer Kate Beecroft, and it won the coveted Audience Award in the Next section at Sundance. After the death of her husband, Tabatha – a young, tattooed, rebellious horse trainer – wrestles with financial insecurity and unresolved grief while providing refuge for a group of wayward teenagers on her broken-down ranch in the Badlands. It’s described as an “authentic portrait of female resilience in the ‘New West’ inspired and played by the women and girls who live it.” Starring the real Tabatha Zimiga and Porshia Zimiga, along with actors Scoot McNairy and Jennifer Ehle. This has many stellar reviews already, saying it’s “a stirring glimpse of the American spirit and its relentless perseverance in troubled times.” And it will play nicely as a double feature with the doc Bitterbrush. Opening in theaters in August in a few months – definitely one to watch when it shows up.

East of Wall is an authentic portrait of female resilience in the ”New West” inspired and played by the women and girls who live it. Set in the Badlands of South Dakota, Tabatha, a young, rebellious rancher, who rescues and resells horses, must make hard decisions to deal with her fractured family, financial uncertainty, and unresolved grief, all while providing refuge for a group of wayward neighborhood teens. East of Wall is written and directed by American indie filmmaker / actress Kate Beecroft, who is now making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films previously. Produced by Lila Yacoub, Kate Beecroft, Melanie Ramsayer, & Shannon Moss. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it won the Audience Award in the Next section. Sony Pictures Classics will release Beecroft’s East of Wall film in select US theaters starting August 15th, 2025 this summer. Look any good?
