“I can only protect you… before all this starts looking suspicious.” An official trailer has debuted for an indie film titled Hollywood Grit, the first feature by director Ryan Curtis. It will arrive exclusively in (art house) theaters around the US later in August. Hollywood Grit is a moody, neon-drenched mystery diving into the shadows of Los Angeles. A hard-boiled detective. A missing daughter. Corruption at every turn. This is noir brought to life with grit, style, and the pulse of a city that never forgives. “Betrayal, ambition, and one man’s fight to uncover the truth.” At its heart, this is a story about family, failure, and the cost of ambition. Max Martini stars as “Grit” Thorn – when his daughter vanishes from a Hollywood jazz club, a detective must battle mobsters, starlets, and his own demons to unearth the sinister truth lurking behind LA’s neon lights. Hollywood Grit invites you to experience Los Angeles as both dream and nightmare—where every promise comes with a price, and every shadow hides another secret. Also starring Tyrese Gibson, Linda Purl, Patrick Duffy, Nikki Howard, Linc Hand, David B. Meadows, Caylee Cowan, and Benito Martinez. Doesn’t look like the best film of the year, but the solid cast does make this film look watchable.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Ryan Curtis’ indie film Hollywood Grit, from YouTube:
Step into the neon-lit shadows of Los Angeles—a city of glamour, grit, and secrets waiting to be unearthed. When his estranged daughter and aspiring singer mysteriously vanishes from the glamorous yet perilous world of a Hollywood jazz club, a fallen detective named Mitchel “Grit” Thorn (Max Martini) must confront his past demons and navigate a treacherous path of corruption and deceit to find her, unearthing a conspiracy that shakes him to his core. Hollywood Grit is a love letter to classic noir cinema, embracing smoky jazz clubs, neon-soaked streets, and razor-sharp dialogue. Hollywood Grit is directed by American indie writer / filmmaker Ryan Curtis, making his feature directorial debut after many shorts and episodes of series “Oscar Mike” and “Sports TV” previously. The screenplay is by Ryan Curtis and Kristina Denton. Produced by Scott Adler, Ryan Curtis, Justin Folger, Bryan Eliacin, Max Martini, David B. Meadows. This hasn’t premiered at any film festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Ryan Curtis’ Hollywood Grit noir film opens in select US theaters starting August 22nd, 2025 coming up.
