“The enemy knows we’re here. Is that not clear to you?” Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the official trailer for a WWII tank movie called Der Tiger, a German movie that will be playing in German cinemas. It’ll eventually be streaming on Prime Video, but this trailer (including English subtitles) is announcing that it’ll play in movie theaters first in September. The five-man crew of a German Tiger tank is sent on a secret mission far beyond the Nazi’s front line. Fueled by the Wehrmacht’s drug addiction, their mission becomes a journey into the heart of darkness. As they journey eastward, the soldiers not only find themselves deeper in enemy territory but must also face their own fears and inner demons. Made by Pantaleon Films along with Amazon MGM Germany, from the same director of the German hit The Wave (Die Welle). Starring David Schütter, Laurence Rupp, Leonard Kunz, Sebastian Urzendowsky, Yoran Leicher. Tank movies are almost a sub-genre of their own: first there was Lebanon (2009), then there was Fury (2014) with Brad Pitt, then there was the Russian movie T-34 (plus The Beast of War from 1988). They’re marketing this as an “anti-war” movie about how destructive and horrible war is – this definitely looks like it gets bleak as hell.
Here’s the official US trailer for Dennis Gansel’s tank movie Der Tiger, direct from MGM’s YouTube:
Autumn 1943, Eastern Front: A five-man crew of a German Tiger tank is sent on a secret mission deep behind enemy lines. But what begins as a clear order quickly turns into a journey into the moral abyss. Between drug addiction, fear, and growing inner emptiness, the boundary between man and machine breaks down – and with it the belief in meaning, order and comradeship… Der Tiger is directed by German filmmaker Dennis Gansel, director of the movies Das Phantom, Girls on Top, Before the Fall, The Wave, We Are the Night, The Fourth State, Mechanic: Resurrection, Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver + Jim Button and the Wild 13 previously, and the “Das Boot” remake series most recently. The screenplay is co-written by Dennis Gansel and Colin Teevan. It’s produced by Frank Kusche and Dan Maag. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Amazon MGM Studios will debut Gansel’s Der Tiger movie first in German cinemas (at CineStar locations) only starting September 18th, 2025 coming soon. It will also be streaming on Prime Video globally later this year. Who wants to watch? Looking good?
