“The hardest thing in the world is to be with the feelings we don’t want to be with.” Seriously. Jolt has revealed an official trailer for an indie documentary film titled Anxiety Club, releasing this August on the Jolt streaming service. It’s directed by Emmy-winning producer Wendy Lobel: “Drawing on her personal experiences with anxiety, she brought a heartfelt authenticity and profound understanding of its themes to this film.” Funny, deep and hopeful, Anxiety Club captures the experience of anxiety as seen through the eyes of comedians, exploring their efforts to overcome their angst. Described as a “side-splitting, piercingly perceptive look at anxiety through a group of contemporary comedians who channel their experiences into their acts…and their everyday lives. Part therapy, part behind-the-scenes take on stand-up acts, and all-brilliant, Lobel’s revelatory film is a rarity.” It also follows the comedian Tiffany Jenkins as she tries out therapy. “With comedy, vulnerability, and honesty, these comedians provide remarkable insight into anxiety – the most prevalent mental health disorder.” This looks really funny and powerfully honest – worth a watch.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Wendy Lobel’s doc film Anxiety Club, direct from YouTube:
Anxiety Club provides an intimate and humorous look at anxiety through the eyes & minds of some of the most brilliant comedians today. Marc Maron, Tiffany Jenkins, Baron Vaughn, Aparna Nancherla, Mark Normand, Eva Victor, and Joe List offer candid reflections on their relationship with anxiety in exclusive interviews, standup performances, sketch videos, therapy sessions, and everyday life. With rare access to private therapy sessions, the film follows comedian Tiffany Jenkins (a content creator with over 9 million followers) as she undergoes behavioral therapy, capturing the profound changes her treatment brings about. Others find support in alternative sources, such as world-renowned meditation expert Tara Brach, PhD, or the psychologist-in-residence at The Laugh Factory, or other mentors in the comedy community.
Anxiety Club is directed by doc producer / filmmaker Wendy Lobel, making her feature directorial debut after a few short films and the TV doc Bold Visions: Women in Science & Technology previously. Produced by Wendy Lobel, Carolin Ehrenburg, Jonathan Gray, Scott Sinkler. Co-Produced by Jeff Spivack. This first premiered at the 2024 DOC NYC Film Festival last year. Jolt will release the Anxiety Club doc streaming / on VOD with Joly starting August 15th, 2025 later this summer. For more info, head to their official site.
