New US Trailer for ‘Plastic Guns’ A Funky French Crime Comedy Film

“There’s a fine line between love and hate. A very fine line.” Dark Star Pictures has unveiled the official US trailer for the French crime comedy film called Plastic Guns, which originally premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival last year in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar there. It’s finally getting released in the US this year, after already opening in French cinemas more than a year ago. Inspired by two controversial cases in French criminal history, this searing tragi-comedy exposes the abuses the police can commit in their pursuit of notorious criminals. A Frenchman traveling in Denmark is arrested, accused of being a multiple murderer on the run named Paul Bernardin. Although he maintains his innocence, two rookie detectives are convinced that he’s guilty. Meanwhile, in Argentina, another Frenchman celebrates his wedding; he is the same age and has a very mysterious past. The film stars Delphine Baril, Charlotte Laemmel, Laurent Stocker, Gaëtan Peau, and Anthony Paliotti. One review states: “Plastic Guns is one of those movies that require complicity, giving into delirium and not asking for too much coherence, plausibility, or depth.” Ha… If you’re a fan of oddball, peculiar, off-beat French comedies – this is a good one to seek out and enjoy.

Here’s the official US trailer (+ poster) for Jean-Christophe Meurisse’s film Plastic Guns, from YouTube:

Michel Uzès (Gaëtan Peau), a man in his forties, is arrested during his trip to Denmark. He is suspected by the police to be Paul Bernardin, a wanted murderer accused of killing his wife and three children a few years ago. While Uzès maintains that he is innocent, two amateur detectives – Léa and Christine, set out to conduct their own investigation. They know the whole affair inside out and feel certain that he is the wanted murderer. Meanwhile, in Argentina, a Frenchman in his forties with a mysterious past celebrates his wedding with his pretty, young fiancée… Plastic Guns, originally known as Les Pistolets en Plastique in French, is directed by French genre filmmaker Jean-Christophe Meurisse, director of the films One of Us, Apnée, and Bloody Oranges previously. The screenplay is written by Jean-Christophe Meurisse, collab with Amélie Philippe. Produced by Marine Bergere, Antoine Blesson, Romain Daubeach, Nicolas Descalles. This initially premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors’ Fortnight last year. Dark Star Pics will debut Meurisse’s Plastic Guns in select US theaters + on VOD this fall.
