New Trailer for 15th Anniversary Re-Release of ‘Black Swan’ in IMAX

“What happened to my sweet girl?” “She’s gone!” Searchlight Pictures has debuted a brand new trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s Oscar-winning thriller Black Swan, which originally opened in 2010. It is celebrating its 15th Anniversary this year, so they’re giving it a quick re-release with this two-nights-only plan. The big news about this re-release is that its getting an update. The IMAX release will be digitally re-mastered into the image & sound quality of The IMAX Experience. It will also feature a new, immersive IMAX 5.0 sound mix. Black Swan is Aronofsky’s thriller about the relationship between a veteran ballet dancer and a rival who’s looking to win the same role in the new production of Swan Lake. Starring Natalie Portman & Mila Kunis, with Winona Ryder, Vincent Cassel, and Barbara Hershey. The superb film (my 2010 review) was nominated for five Academy Awards, but only won one for Natalie Portman as Best Actress (The King’s Speech took home Best Picture instead). The score by Clint Mansell is exceptional, and cinematography by Matty Libatique also earned an Oscar nom. Tickets are now on sale at 250 IMAX theatres nationwide for showings around late August. Don’t miss a chance to revisit this haunting masterpiece on the biggest screen.

Experience it in IMAX! A psychological thriller set in the world of New York City ballet, Black Swan stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a featured ballet dancer who finds herself roped into a battle of competitive intrigue with a new rival at the dance company (Mila Kunis). Black Swan is directed by award-winning American filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, his fifth feature film at the time after directing Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, and The Wrestler; before going on to make Noah (in 2014) after. The screenplay is written by Andrés Heinz, with Mark Heyman and John J. McLaughlin; based on a story by Andrés Heinz. Produced by Scott Franklin, Mike Medavoy, Arnold W. Messer, and Brian Oliver. This first premiered at the 2010 Telluride & Toronto Film Festivals (read my original review). It opened in theaters December 2010 and earned a grand total of 5 Oscar nominations with Natalie Portman winning for Best Actress. Searchlight Pictures will re-release Aronofsky’s Black Swan film in select theaters, including in IMAX, for two nights only on August 21st & 24th, 2025 coming up soon.
