Keanu Reeves Is a Sad Guardian Angel With a Wild Plan in Aziz Ansari’s ‘Good Fortune’ Trailer

Keanu Reeves wants to see people’s dreams take flight in the teaser trailer for Aziz Ansari‘s comedy movie Good Fortune.

Lionsgate releases writer-director Ansari’s feature in theaters Oct. 17. Ansari co-stars in the film alongside fellow castmembers Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh.

Good Fortune centers on Garbriel (Reeves), a well-intentioned guardian angel who targets gig worker Arj (Ansari) as someone on Earth in need of assistance. However, things go awry when Gabriel concocts a plan to have Arj swap places with wealthy venture capitalist Jeff (Rogen).

“Is there any way I can have more meaningful duties?” Reeves asks in the trailer. “I want to guide people. I want to change their lives.” Oh responds, “To save a lost soul, you have to find a lost soul.”

At a later point, Reeves explains, “I’m normally only in charge of saving people from texting and driving.” This leads Ansari to exclaim, “Wait, you’re telling me I have a budget guardian angel?”

Ansari marks his feature directorial debut with the movie that he helmed from his own script. He produces the film alongside Anthony Katagas and Alan Yang.

Lionsgate debuted footage at last year’s CinemaCon, where Ansari explained that he wanted to make a comedy after having recently worked on dramatic projects, and was excited for the film to get a theatrical release.

“Movies allow us to live life in someone else’s shoes. If you can write about things that everyone is dealing with that no one is talking about, you’re in a good area,” Ansari told the crowd at the time. “This movie is about what a lot of people are doing — struggling.”
