Full Trailer for Brazil Series ‘Rivers of Fate’ from Quico & Fernando Meirelles

“You’ll have to be really brave, okay?” Netflix has revealed their official trailer for a Brazilian series titled Rivers of Fate in English, or just Pssica in Brazilian (which translates to Curse). The series is adapted from the book of the same name from Edyr Augusto. Three strangers’ lives collide in the Amazon: Janalice, kidnapped by traffickers; Preá, a reluctant gang leader; and Mariangel, seeking vengeance for her family’s murder. All three of them must try to break the curse, or “pssica,” that they believe has been cast on them. Rivers of Fate is a gripping drama mini-series directed by Quico Meirelles & Fernando Meirelles (of City of God), starring Domithila Cattete, Marleyda Soto, and Lucas Galvino. The Netflix series dives deep into the Pará region of the Amazon, exploring human trafficking, corruption, and the fight for justice. The series’ ensemble cast includes Ademara, Bruno Goya, Claudio Jaborandy, Luca Dan, Ricardo Teodoro, Sandro Guerra, Welket Bungué, and Wesley Guimarães. This looks like a very dark, very intense series about human trafficking – but with some positivity as there’s a bunch of people out to find her and stop this gang. And she might just find a way to escape on her own, too. Worth a look if you’re intrigued.

The plot focuses on three characters whose lives become intertwined when they meet on the Atlantic side of the Amazon. Janalice (Domithila Cattete), a teen kidnapped by a gang operating on the rivers of Pará, in Brazil, is dragged into the heart of an international sex trafficking network. As she fights for survival, a bloody search begins — and she’ll need every ounce of courage to escape the “pssica” (curse) that seems to have been cast over her life. Rivers of Fate, also known as Pssica in Brazilian, is a mini-series created by writers Stephanie Degreas, Fernando Garrido, Bráulio Mantovani. Adapted from the book of the same name by Edyr Augusto, a writer from Pará, Brazil. Featuring episodes directed by acclaimed Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles (director of the films City of God, The Constant Gardener, Blindness, 360, The Two Popes, and episodes of “Joint Venture”, “The Sympathizer”) and his son Quico Meirelles (also a director on “Joint Venture”). It’s produced by Andrea Barata Ribeiro & Fernando Meirelles for O2 Filmes. Executive produced by Andrea Barata Ribeiro & Vanessa Viveiros.
