‘Eternal’ Trailer – Underwater Fracture Sci-Fi Thriller from Denmark

“The fracture speaks. Can you hear it?” Dark Star Pictures has revealed the official US trailer for a Danish sci-fi thriller titled Eternal, which is the new English title instead of the original For Evigt. This seems to be yet another one of these climate change stories that is more about guilt and how to live on with love even when you know the world is collapsing. It premiered back in 2023 at the Les Arcs Film Festival, and opened in Denmark in 2024, and is finally getting a US release this summer including on VOD right away. Eternal is the story of Elias, a young climate change scientist who chooses career over love when he gets the chance to travel to the ocean floor to investigate a new fracture in the Earth making climate change worse. While down below, he begins to experience visions of the life he could have had if he had never gone – instead spending time with a woman he fell in love with. It stars Simon Sears as Elias, Nanna Øland Fabricius (aka the Danish singer “Oh Land“) as Anita, plus Anna Søgaard Frandsen, Viktor Hjelmsø, Oscar Langer, and Magnus Krepper. Scandinavia has been churning out many epic disaster movies recently, but this one seems more intimate and personal – a story about love and family above all else. Worth a quick look at least.

Young climate change scientist Elias (Simon Sears) falls in love with an aspiring singer, Anita (Nanna Øland Fabricius – aka “Oh Land”). But when an opportunity arises for him to join a mission researching a dangerous climate change phenomenon—a mysterious fracture on the ocean floor—he chooses career over love. Years later, during his mission, he experiences a vision of what his life could have been like if he made a different choice—and soon Elias becomes obsessed with having what could’ve been. Eternal, also known as For Evigt in Danish, is written and directed by Danish filmmaker Ulaa Salim, making his second feature film after directing Sons of Denmark previously, plus many other short films. Produced by Daniel Mühlendorph. This first premiered at the 2023 Les Arcs Film Festival, then it played at the 2024 Rotterdam Film Festival, with a release in Denmark in 2024. Dark Star Pictures will debut Ulaa Salim’s Eternal film in select US theaters on June 27th, 2025, then on VOD starting July 1st this summer. Is anyone intrigued?
