Rivaling fellow Jane Austen novel ‘Pride & Prejudice’ in terms of how many times it has been adapted, ‘Sense and Sensibility’ is another of the author’s literary classics that filmmakers keep going back to.
Many people view Ang Lee’s 1995 movie version of the story as the best cinematic example, but that isn’t putting off the team behind a new take.

“Lose your heart and come to your senses.”
Georgia Oakley, who most recently directed ‘Blue Jean’, will oversee the new version, which has ‘Twisters’ Daisy Edgar-Jones on board to star, with writer Diana Reid on script duty.

What’s the story of ‘Sense and Sensibility’?

Originally published in 1811 with the anonymous byline “By a Lady,” ‘Sense and Sensibility’ was the first novel by Austen, who later also wrote such literary classics as ‘Emma’, ‘Persuasion’ and, of course, the aforementioned ‘Pride & Prejudice’.
The novel’s narrative follows sisters Elinor (the role Edgar-Jones will take) and Marianne Dashwood, who navigate love, loss and financial uncertainty as they are forced to leave their family estate in Sussex.
The role of Marianne Dashwood hasn’t been announced yet.
In the 1995 version, Emma Thompson (who also wrote the adaptation) played Elinor, with Kate Winslet as Marianne. The notable British cast also included Hugh Grant, Harriet Walter and Alan Rickman.
Edgar-Jones posted an Instagram selfie to tease the news:
Where else can we see Daisy Edgar-Jones?

Edgar-Jones, who broke out big with 2020 TV drama ‘Normal People’, has been a rising star ever since.
She’s been seen in the small-screen likes of ‘Under the Banner of Heaven’ and movies including ‘Fresh’, ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’, ‘Twisters’ and this year’s ‘On Swift Horses’.
Coming up, she has legal thriller ‘A Place in Hell’, directed by Chloe Domont and ‘Here Comes the Flood’ opposite Denzel Washington.
When will the new ‘Sense and Sensibility’ arrive in theaters?
With the movie in pre-production, this will likely start filming at some point soon this year, so we could conceivably see it in 2026.
But Focus Features has yet to reveal an exact release date.
