Colman & Cumberbatch Talk Divorce in ‘The Roses’ Story Featurette

“The Roses is a cautionary tale about romance.” Searchlight Pictures has debuted a new promo featurette for The Roses, an upcoming comedy from filmmaker Jay Roach (known for Meet the Parents & Fockers, the Austin Powers movies, Dinner for Schmucks, The Campaign). “All’s fair when love is war.” Life seems easy for this couple, however that’s all about to change. A tinderbox of competition and resentments hidden underneath the façade of a picture-perfect couple is ignited when the husband’s professional dreams come crashing down and his (ex-)wife’s career as a chef takes off. An updated, modern take on the book “The War of the Roses” written by Warren Adler, which was already made before into 1989 comedy of the same name. The first trailer arrived a few months ago already – it’s still set to open in September this fall. The Roses cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, with Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, and Kate McKinnon. This is an amusing promo showing how much fun everyone had on set bringing the relationship chaos in the movie.

The Roses is a reimagining of the 1989 classic film The War of the Roses, based on the novel by Warren Adler. The Roses is directed by comedy filmmaker Jay Roach, director of the movies Mystery Alaska, Austin Powers trilogy, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, Dinner for Schmucks, The Campaign, Trumbo, All the Way, and Bombshell previously, plus some TV series most recently. The screenplay is written by Tony McNamara. Based on the novel “The War of the Roses” written by Warren Adler. Produced by Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Adam Ackland, Leah Clarke, Ed Sinclair, Tom Carver. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere at this moment. Searchlight Pictures will debut Jay Roach’s The Roses in theaters nationwide starting August 29th, 2025 later this summer. Look good?
