Rihanna’s gearing up for a big year. Between the alleged wedding planning with longtime partner ASAP Rocky, her pregnancy announcement and role as Smurfette in Smurfs (which premieres this summer on the 2025 movie guide) she has a lot on her plate. All the while, Rihanna continues to go viral for one reason or another. On that note, Bad Girl RiRi called DJ Khaled out for preparing and eating a mango in the wrong way.
The whole discourse went on via a series of posts that were shared on the ‘I’m On One” artist’s Instagram. Earlier this month, Khaled started sharing clips of himself enjoying some homegrown mangos in his backyard. But the way he prepped the May-September fruit was lacking in the eyes of many, particularly those who seemingly grew up eating them. That included the St. Michael, Barbados-born pop singer. Her message read:
[DJ Khaled] stop butchering these mangos, bro lol My lil Caribbean heart aches every time!
Bad Boys alum to replace the knife with Caribbean teeth peeling practices. Aside from the mango brouhaha, Khaled is gearing up to release a new album this year called Aalam of God. It’s been announced that his stone fruit guru, Rihanna, will be featured on along with plenty of other major stars.
As he continues to promote the coming project, the Grateful artist continues to showcase how his fruit-cutting skills are improving. Overall, the rapper seems to just have a fondness for the refreshing mangos, as they also appear in another post he shares. Check out that video for yourself down below:
I’m not sure I had “DJ Khaled gets called out for cutting a mango wrong” on my bingo card. However, I’m not mad to have witnessed it. If anything, I think I may have learned something about the intricacies of correctly carving delectable fruit. In all fairness, a mango can be tricky to cut, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are plenty of fans who’ve butchered their share of them. In any case, I think a big thank you is owed to the “Wild Thoughts” performers for initiating this fun little social media exchange.
With the mango-eating score settled, I’m truly just focused on Rihanna’s first new song in years, “Friend of Mine,” which was teased in the Smurfs’ trailer. I also wouldn’t have expected a Rihanna X Smurfs undies campaign but, then again, the artist is known for surprising people.

As for DJ Khaled, I’m looking forward to the release of his new album. Let’s also hope that in the continued lead-up to it that he doesn’t experience any additional faux pas when it comes to mangos, or Rihanna might call him out again.
In reality, being at the wrong place at the wrong time is inconvenient. In the movies, it can be life-changing in strange and even horrific ways. See for yourself by revisiting cinematic classics about people getting caught in some unexpected trouble.

North By Northwest (1959)
Many of Alfred Hitchcock’s best movies followed people who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time, with North by Northwest being a prime example. The awesome spy movie stars Cary Grant as an advertising executive who is suddenly forced to go on the run when he is mistaken for a government agent.
Robert Downey Jr.) accidentally walks into an audition for a movie role, has a breakdown on the spot that is mistaken for a dynamite performance, and is sent to Hollywood where he shadows a private investigator (played by Val Kilmer) as research.
Shia LaBeouf), who comes from a long line of men known for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, as part of a mysterious curse. For instance, Stanley happens to be standing right where a pair of missing shoes fall on his head and, in turn, is accused of stealing them, which is how he ends up at the brutal Camp Green Lake.
best Western movies of all time, including its brilliant use of themes like “decision and consequence.” In the Best Picture Oscar winner, Llewellyn Moss (Josh Brolin) comes across the aftermath of a drug deal turned deadly and decides to take $2 million left behind. His second and worse mistake is returning to deliver water to one of the dying victims at the scene, where he is spotted and soon forced to go on the run from the sadistic Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem).
Michael Mann’s gripping thriller, Collateral, points out that the plot “started out like any other night” before exploding into one of panic and violence. Had Max (Jamie Foxx) not apologized for accidentally ignoring Vincent (Tom Cruise) when he first approached his cab, it could have saved him from driving around Los Angeles with a sociopathic contract killer in his backseat.
acclaimed A24 movie, Green Room, put writer and director Jeremy Saulnier on the map as not just a master of heart-pounding tension, but of crafting compelling stories of ordinary people trapped in terrifying situations. The thriller follows an up-and-coming punk band forced to barricade themselves in the backroom at a bar crawling with Neo-nazis after witnessing a murder.

David Lynch’s best movies, Blue Velvet, is a cautionary tale about the potentially dangerous lure of curiosity. The Shawshank Redemption, Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novella, the evidence is stacked against Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) regarding whether or not he murdered his wife and her lover. Considering he was at the scene of the crime with a revolver in hand, one would understandably assume he was guilty, until it is revealed that his cellmate, Elmo Batch (Bill Bolender), is the real killer, making this a case of unfortunate coincidence.
high school movie favorite Donnie Darko presents a unique reversal of sorts on the “wrong place, wrong time” theme, as Jake Gyllenhaal’s titular teen is spared from a tragic death by the rabbit-suited Frank (James Duval). However, avoiding this grisly fate proves to have catastrophic consequences for his family, his peers, and, potentially, the world.

Death Sentence (2007)
Had Kevin Bacon’s Nick Hume not stopped at a gas station on the way back from his teenage son’s hockey game, the boy would still be alive, and he would not be motivated to wage a war against a violent gang in director James Wan’s thriller, Death Sentence.
Casting Survivor 50 was always going to be a thankless job. Every fan has their own personal preferences, and there was no collection of names everyone was going to be happy with. I always assumed I’d be happy with some of the choices and annoyed about some of the choices. Now that the cast has been revealed, I can verify that’s true, but even so, this collection of names isn’t sitting right with me. In fact, I was initially skeptical of the leaked names, and even now, the more I think about the cast, the more confused I get about what’s going on.
I’m sure Jeff Probst and the producers had some kind of process they went by to get here, but from where I’m sitting, there are fundamental things about the makeup of this cast that just don’t make any sense. I can’t figure out what process they went by because I don’t understand how any well thought out process could have led to this collection of names. As such, I’m not surprised so many fans are livid.
there being too many advantages and how self-referential and filled with superfans it has become, but in general, I’m still on board with the show and love it. So, I’m excited about having the New Era represented and excited to see how those players will bounce off the ones from previous eras.
But half of the cast debuting between Season 41 and Season 49 is outrageous. That doesn’t honor the show’s history, and it’s also a really questionable marketing strategy. I realize how we consume television has changed, but the early seasons of the show were among the most popular offerings on television. Jerri Manthey was arguably the most talked about player on The Australian Outback, which was watched by almost 30 million Americans weekly. The new seasons are lucky to have episodes break 7 million. What are we doing here?
There’s Way Too Many Players From Season 48
I know I already complained about the New Era, but this is such an egregious and nonsensical situation that it needs its own paragraph. Season 48 is arguably the most disliked season of the New Era. It had some moments here and there, but best case scenario, it’s near the bottom of the New Era rankings. I didn’t like it. My friends and family didn’t like it. The complaints on social media were loud and relentless, apart from maybe two episodes that featured some interesting gameplay.
The fact that Jeff and company could watch that season, see the reaction and still want to bring back 3 players is baffling. That’s no shot against Kamilla, Kyle or Joe. They were fun players to watch, and I’m not opposed to seeing all three return separately at some point in the future. Not now though. There are 24 total spots for people on Season 50, a season that is supposed to represent the history of the show. Why would you give 3 of those to a season everyone was collectively meh on?
We Need A Statement On Diversity
Survivor has been very open about increasing the number of diverse players on the show, and the casts in the New Era clearly represent that forward progress. The newer seasons have had fifty percent BIPOC representation, and that representation has helped give us some all-time fantastic players. There were a lot of questions about whether Survivor 50 would follow that mandate, given we’re dealing with former players and not new ones.
Many fans felt strongly CBS should carry that casting goal into Season 50. Others felt this all-star season in particular was a bit more complicated, given the show is trying to honor its entire run and much of that run was filled with predominantly white players. Ultimately, the show cast several diverse players but less than what we’ve seen in the New Era.
In absence of a clear explanation as to why, there is a lot of chatter on social media about the decision. Survivor producers should offer a clear and straightforward explanation and talk about what it means for future seasons.
To Sum Up
I’m going to watch Season 50, and I’m going to go in with an open mind. I love a lot of the returning players, and I can’t wait to see how they all interact with each other. I think this can be and will be a really fun and memorable season. I also get how hard casting something like this is, and I don’t want to pretend like I could have come up with a group everyone would have loved.
But it’s really obvious from this final list that Jeff and the producers didn’t go in with pre-conceived rules about how they would split things out. They didn’t have a mandate to cast a certain number of people from each era. They didn’t have a mandate to cast a certain number of winners or Final Tribal losers or a certain number of diverse players. They just picked who they ultimately wanted to be on the show. Maybe that mix of players will work together really well, but right now, that lack of an obvious plan has myself and a lot of other Survivor fans feeling confused and frustrated as there are giant gaps of the show’s history missing.
Secret Task Force in LA Investigative Thriller ‘Countdown’ Series Trailer
by Alex Billington May 28, 2025 Source: YouTube
“They don’t play by our rule book – why should we?” “I’ll play this however you want to play it…” Prime Video has revealed a full official trailer for an action thrill series called Countdown, which will be playing out with new episodes during the entire summer. This intense series is about a threat to Los Angeles and a secret task force investigating whoever is orchestrating. When a Department of Homeland Security officer is murdered in broad daylight, LAPD Detective Mark Meachum, played by Ackles, is recruited to a secret task force. They are sent to investigate the suspicious murder, uncovering a sinister plot that requires the team to unite and save millions in the city. Will this be some subtle pro-law enforcement propaganda about how the cops & Homeland Security are really important in stopping major threats? The series stars Jensen Ackles (from The Boys, Supernatural), Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, and Uli Latukefu. Countdown is created by showrunner & exec producer Derek Haas and made by Amazon MGM. The finale won’t air until September, setting up this show to be talked about all summer at the watercooler.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Derek Haas’ new series Countdown, direct from PV’s YouTube:
When an officer with the Department of Homeland Security is murdered in broad daylight, LAPD’s Mark Meachum, portrayed by Ackles, is recruited to a secret task force, alongside undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement, to investigate. The series is also written by Derek Haas. With episodes directed by Jonathan Brown, Lisa Robinson, Avi Youabian, Rashidi Natara Harper, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Tess Malone, Eric Stoltz. Executive produced by Derek Haas. Made by Amazon MGM Studios. Amazon will debut the Countdown action series streaming on PV starting June 25th, 2025 with new episodes all summer until the finale in September. Anyone into it?
After watching the Peacemaker Season 2 trailer last week, I immediately found myself asking what’s happened to Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller since she’s no longer in charge of A.R.G.U.S. I’d be lying, however, if I said I wasn’t surprised to learn from the preview that Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord are appearing in this upcoming DC TV show following their debut in James Gunn’s Superman. But as Fillion recently discussed, it’s going to be a “powder keg” when Guy and John Cena’s Christopher Smith crossed paths.
Fillion briefly discussed his second turn as Earth’s bowl-cut Green Lantern while speaking with TVLine, confirming these two characters will definitely not be fans of one another when Peacemaker Season 2 starts airing on the 2025 TV schedule. As he put it:
Yeah, it’s clear from their relationship that the two of them do not get along. Not a fan of each other. I wouldn’t call them both A-listers by any means, but I think they both consider themselves maybe in their hearts they should be A-listers. I think they have a lot to prove. I think they’ve got chips on their shoulders. And I think it’s just a powder keg when they get together.
reprise his DCU character next year in HBO’s Lanterns opposite Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart.
We’re still waiting for One Piece Season 2 to be available with a Netflix subscription, but the series has been good about giving fans something to be excited about while they wait. We’ve seen Logue Townwe learned about some exciting castings for characters, and as we gear up for Netflix’s TUDUM event, the franchise is teasing yet another big reveal.
A new post from Netflix’s account for the show is making the rounds, and it hints at a big character reveal ahead of the show’s official launch in 2026. Unfortunately, I think we’re past the point where character reveals do much to tide me over, and I need to see more than what is seemingly planned for the upcoming Netflix event on May 31st.
Joe Manganiello as Crocodile and David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3. However, we’re still waiting on a full reveal of the Straw Hat Pirates’ beloved Tony Tony Chopper, the anthropomorphic reindeer doctor. It seems like we might get a better look at him, though, as the following post teased:
May 27, 2025
It’ll be nice to get a good look at Chopper, and hopefully also learn who will be voicing the character in the new season. That said, I can’t help but be a little concerned with this tease, for one obvious reason that I think other fans will agree with.
I’m Concerned This Will Be The Only Significant Update On Season 2
We’re just short of two years since the release of One Piece Season 1 on Netflix. While it’s nice that I’ve been able to get into the anime series and get current on that, I’m growing impatient when it comes to waiting for Season 2 of the live-action series. Keep in mind, the wait for Season 2 is nowhere near over, seeing as it’s set to premiere sometime in 2026, so even after this reveal, we’ll still be in anticipation mode.
With Netflix hinting so heavily that Chopper will be revealed at the TUDUM event, I’m very concerned it will be the only significant news we get about the show. To be completely candid, I’m worn out with streaming shows taking so long to deliver new seasons, and I need something more than a look at Chopper to maintain my enthusiasm for this installment, which is still very far away.
With so much time passing between seasons, I’m once again reminded of the highly improbable scenario in which One Piece will ever sniff the amount of story that the manga and anime have told thus far. Hell, we’ll be lucky if the series lasts long enough to add Franky as a Straw Hat at this point, so I need a trailer or something else to get me back in a happy place about this live-action adaptation.

One Piece Season 2 is set to arrive on Netflix in 2026, and we can expect more details to be revealed when Netflix discusses the show during the TUDUM event. I’m guessing we’ll get some information on other highly anticipated shows coming to the streamer, so be sure to keep an eye out for the big day!
