Since it was first announced as in development back in 2023, Sony and Nintendo’s live-action adaptation of the latter’s hugely popular video game series ‘The Legend of Zelda’ has been quiet.
Partly that’s because chosen director Wes Ball was a little busy making ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’, but things have now taken a big step forward with word that the movie’s team have found their main duo –– Bo Bragason will play Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth has won the role of Link.

The news came via a tweet from game co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who revealed image of the two young actors in costume.

What’s the story of ‘The Legend of Zelda’?

The ‘Legend of Zelda’ game franchise, created by Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, first debuted via Nintendo in 1986. The game follows the elf-like warrior Link and Princess Zelda as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord-turned-demon king.
Across the decades, the franchise has sustained as one of Nintendo’s most iconic, selling over 150 million units with multiple installments across various gaming consoles, one of the most famous behind 1998’s ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.’
It has also spawned animated TV adaptations. With so much source material to draw upon, there’s big prospects for a sequel. But fans will have to wait and see which elements or storylines from the game will make it into a movie.
While Derek Connolly, who worked on the ‘Jurassic World’ movie trilogy, wrote the first draft of the script, it has since been through the hands of T.S. Nowlin, who collaborated with Ball on several ‘Maze Runner’ movies.
Who else is working on the movie adaptation?
‘The Legend of Zelda.’ Photo: Nintendo.
The film will be produced by Miyamoto, who these days is Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, and Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc, who has a number of big movies on his resume.
Here’s what Miyamoto previously posted to twitter about the movie:
“This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of ‘The Legend of Zelda’ for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
This isn’t the first time someone has looked to adapt the ‘Zelda’ games. There was chatter that Nintendo would work on a series for Netflix, but that has so far not come to pass.
Speculation on casting for the project has been rampant, with many fans taking to social media to name ‘Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer as their pick for the part of Zelda. Deadline’s sources have said that Mason Thames and Brady Hepner were two other finalists for the role of Link.

Upcoming, she’ll be seen in Prime Video’s YA drama series ‘Sterling Point’ from ‘My Old Ass’ writer/director Megan Park.

Alongside those, he’s appeared in shows including ‘The Sandman’, ‘Son of a Critch’ and ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’.
His next project to see screens will be crime thriller ‘Blood on Snow’, from director Cary Joji Fukunaga, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Eva Green and Benedict Cumberbatch. We’re still waiting to learn when it’ll be in theaters.

What’s the story of ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’?
Dr. Seuss’ ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’ Photo: Amazon.
Written by prolific author Dr. Seuss –– AKA Theodor Seuss Geisel –– the original book was first published by Random House on January 22nd, 1990.
It was the last book to be published during Seuss’ lifetime.
The story, written in his usual rhyming form, begins with the narrator, relating the decision of the unnamed protagonist (who represents the reader) to leave town.
The protagonist travels through several geometrical and polychromatic landscapes and places, eventually encountering a place simply called “The Waiting Place,” which is ominously addressed as being a place where everyone is always waiting for something to happen.
As the protagonist continues to explore, spurred on by the thoughts of places he will visit and things he will discover, the book cheerfully concludes with an open ending.
The movie will reportedly focus on a young adventurer navigating the ups and downs of life.
What other Dr. Seuss books have been adapted?
(Left) Jim Carrey as the Grinch in ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas.’ Photo: Universal Pictures.
Seuss is an author whose works have long been source fodder for TV shows, stage productions and more, including theme park experiences.
Some of his books have even been adapted more than once, including ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ (for the TV ‘toon, the 2000 live-action movie and the 2018 big screen animated iteration).
Other tomes to have been turned into shows or movies include ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ ‘Green Eggs and Ham,’ ‘The Lorax’ and ‘Horton Hears a Who!’
The same studio behind ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’ also has ‘Thing One and Thing Two,’ presumably focused on the chaotic sidekicks to The Cat in the Hat character, in development.
And that’s not even counting all the various theatrical productions, live shows and even movies that put the author himself front and center, talking about his life or his political views.
It’s perhaps not surprising that so many productions have sprung from his work –– after all, that includes many of the most popular children’s books of all time, selling over 600 million copies and being translated into more than 20 languages by the time of his death in 1991.
Where else can we see Ariana Grande and Josh Gad?
Ariana Granda is Glinda in ‘Wicked For Good’, directed by Jon M. Chu. Photo: Universal Pictures.
Grande, as mentioned, played Glinda in Chu’s successful movie adaptation of the ‘Wicked’ stage musical (and the Gregory Maguire novel from which the show was sourced). She received an Oscar nomination for the role and will be reprising it in the second half of the story, ‘Wicked: For Good’, also directed by Chu (since he shot them back to back).
‘Wicked: for Good’ will be in cinemas on November 21st. And Grande is not done with ‘Wicked,’ either, since she and co-star Cynthia Erivo will be part of a live concert special featuring music from the movies, which will be broadcast on NBC on November 6th.
Beyond that, Grande recently landed a part in the new ‘Meet the Parents’ movie, which is in pre-production.
Gad is best known for roles such as snowman Olaf in the ‘Frozen’ animated movie franchise and playing LeFou in the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ live-action film.
He was most recently heard in ‘Strays’ as Gus, and seen in TV comedy drama ‘Wolf Like Me’. Gad is developing a variety of projects at the moment, including a ‘Spaceballs’ sequel alongside Mel Brooks.
The actor will also return to two of his most familiar roles, including a third ‘Frozen’ entry in 2027 and ‘The Angry Birds Movie 3’, in theaters the same year.

Initial Thoughts
Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson in 2025’s ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’. Photo: Sony Pictures.
‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ is so beloved and iconic to the horror genre that a follow-up is immediately going to make people wonder if it was necessary. There was a sequel, titled ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’ which came out in 1998, closely after the 1997 original, but this is a modern story, taking place in 2025. Several other horror movies have thrived by continuing to release movies, like ‘Scream’ and ‘Saw’, and this franchise is trying to do the same.
Finding a way to bring some of the original cast back, in a way that not only makes sense but features them as prominent characters in the story rather than cameos, is one of the most exciting things about ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’. It allows the movie to feel more like a transition from the old to the new. Seeing Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. back on screen together, giving these young teens advice on how to find the killer, is enough to make any fan feel the nostalgia.
Story and Direction
Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James in 2025’s ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’. Photo: Sony Pictures.
To no one’s surprise, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ features an accident in which the teens are involved in the death of a stranger early on. The tone is dark and intense but quickly shifts after time jumps to a year in the future. This feels unsettling at first, but once you realize the rest of the movie is going not going to take itself that seriously, it is easy to get back on board.
With so many characters to keep track of and hints that basically anyone around them could be involved, things could have easily gone off the rails. Thankfully, they do not.
Slashers like this are meant to keep the audience guessing, never giving them all of the details they need to actually put the pieces of the puzzle together until the right time comes. ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ obliges by this unspoken rule, making it nearly impossible to know who is wearing the fisherman slicker until the writer, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, wants you to know.
As a director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson knows how to create a suspenseful environment, something we saw her do in ‘Do Revenge’. The stalking and murder sequences, which everyone comes to this type of movie for, deliver. The are thrilling, suspenseful, fun, and of course, a little bit gory.
Cast and Performances

With such a large ensemble cast, it is easy enough for a character to get lost in the shuffle. That never happens in ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ as each one is given the time to shine whether it is during their murder or a big reveal that they are the one doing the killing.
Both the orginal cast and the newcomers have a part to play, and each actor does so perfectly. Making the returning cast such a big part of the plot is the perfect way to tie this to the 1997 film, truly making them feel connected.
While some of the death scenes get a little over the top, and certain one liners are more corny than serious, that is the tone of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ so it works. It all feels intentional.
Final Thoughts
2025’s ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’. Photo: Sony Pictures.
‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ is a great welcome back to the franchise. Sure, there was a series in 2021 with the same name, but we can forget that ever existed. This movie captures the same feel as the original, with a little modernizing. It leans into cheesy moments and horror tropes, but in a way that makes sense for what it is trying to accomplish.
In the end, audiences are sure to shocked at the big reveal, which is all you can ask for in a slasher like this. The cast does a wonderful job ushering a new generation of fans into the franchise, while the returning cast drizzles on the nostalgia. One thing is for sure, everyone making this movie had a lot of fun, and chances are most viewers will have just as much fun watching it.
It is important to note that there is a very exciting mid-credit sequence which will lead to the future of the franchise.
“You get the ending you deserve.”

Moviefone recently had the pleasure of traveling to Oslo, Norway, home of the Vikings, to speak exclusively with writer and director Dean DeBlois, as well as young actors Mason Thames and Nico Parker about their work on 2025’s ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ and the home entertainment release.
DeBlois discussed adapting his own animated movie into live action, the design of the dragons, and deleted scenes, while Thames and Parker talked about joining the beloved franchise, their experience working with DeBlois and Gerard Butler, and the home release’s gag reel.

Moviefone: To begin with, Dean, can you talk about the challenges of remaking a live action version of your own animated movie?
Dean DeBlois: Well, I think the biggest challenge is I’m very close to it, so the benefit I think, is the distance. It was 15 years ago. I tend never to watch movies that I’ve worked on again. By the time we get through the whole process of mixing and coloring it and putting it out in the world, I’m kind of done. So, I had the benefit of sense memory of the movie and then revisiting the script and looking for opportunities where we could go deeper with character relationships or with mythology and leaning into even more so into the aesthetic of live action. I think those were all directions that were set in place from the very beginning. So, it meant revisiting old material through a new lens.
MF: Mason, what was it like for you to join this franchise and bring the character of Hiccup to life in live action?
Mason Thames: I mean, Hiccup is a character that means so much to me. He’s always meant so much to me, so it’s kind of a factor of going into it that, what can I do differently? But also keep the character the same and respect what Jay (Baruchel) did, and Hiccup’s sarcasm, his wittiness, and his kind of awkward loneliness is something that makes him Hiccup. But going into it, me and Dean had a lot of time to talk about new colors that we wanted to explore. So, it was fun.
(from left) Astrid (Nico Parker) and Hiccup (Mason Thames) in Universal Pictures’ live-action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, written and directed by Dean DeBlois. Photo: Universal Pictures.
MF: Nico, were you a fan of the franchise before making this film and what was it like for you to step into this incredible world Dean has created?
Nico Parker: Yes. Me and Mason both were huge fans of the animated movies. Such a huge fan. I feel like anyone in our age demographic grew up with these movies and so to get to be a part of it is amazing. I remember even just in the audition process meeting Dean and, regardless of getting the part or anything, just meeting Dean was entirely surreal because this is a person who has so much responsibility in something that has been such a huge part of my childhood. There’s something kind of strange about meeting someone that has that kind of weight in your life. But he is just the loveliest and such a brilliant director and a wonderful person. So, to get to be here and doing all of this is kind of still constantly a pinch-me moment, but is very exciting. He’s literally the best person on the planet.
MF: Mason, what was it like for you collaborating with Dean on set?
MT: Dean is my favorite human being ever. He’s like, the sweetest. No, genuinely. You just want to hug him all the time and it’s like, “Oh, personal space, Mason, remember”. But he genuinely is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and such a fantastic director and filmmaker and artist. I love him so much and I trust him, which is something I value so much. He’s great.
Hiccup (Mason Thames) in Universal Pictures’ live-action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, written and directed by Dean DeBlois. Photo: Universal Pictures.
MF: Dean, can you talk about the deleted scenes available on the home entertainment release and why those scenes didn’t make the final cut?
DD: The two deleted scenes that we included are “Beach Break”, which is the moment that follows “Test Drive”. So, when Hiccup and Toothless are up flying in the clouds, they become detached and then reattach and fly on intuition. In the animated movie, there’s a scene where they’re now taking a break, just kind of relaxing, cooking some fish, and they get accosted by Terrible Terrors who try to steal the fish. It’s a moment where Hiccup realizes A, dragons aren’t so fireproof on the inside and B, everything we know about them is wrong. We had our live action version of that. We shot it, but we found in the edit, it was in an area of the movie where you could feel the lag, and something was weighing it down. So experimentally, we tried snipping that out thinking we’re kind of telling that story anyway with other scenes and just visually through the narrative, and it survived without it. So, it allowed the pace to increase, but it also just allowed us to move on. Another one is where Astrid almost catches Hiccup red-handed at night in the blacksmith stall with Toothless. Similar, it’s a cute little moment, nice little interaction, but at the end of the day, no real new information was being given to the audience and it helped with the overall pacing to remove it.
MF: Nico, I understand that there will also be a gag reel on the home entertainment release. How much fun was it being on the set, and was it hard not to laugh in between scenes?
NP: It was. I mean, Mason’s so funny, and all the recruits are so funny, and the crew is so funny. I can’t even believe that we made a cohesive movie with how much everyone was laughing. I remember the first time going into the arena. I remember, we turned to Mason and everyone started being like, “Who let you in?” Like belittling him, and I remember they were shooting from behind Mason’s head and the whole time everyone was so funny. Harry (Trevaldwyn) is so funny, Gabe (Howell) is so funny, and Julian (Dennison). Everyone’s so funny. I honestly am surprised that we even had a movie at the end of it because of how much we were breaking.
Universal Pictures’ live-action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, written and directed by Dean DeBlois. Photo: Universal Pictures.
MF: Dean, can you talk about the design of the dragons, particularly Toothless? Did you want them to look like the animated versions, or more realistic?
DD: Both. We wanted to try to keep the overall silhouettes and coloring and personality traits, certainly from the animated movie, and migrate them into a more naturalistic photoreal world where these creatures feel like they could have been part of our animal kingdom. So, I think in every case, except for Toothless, we were able to go back much more to the animal references, whether it was a crocodile or a tropical bird or a big walrus or so on and so forth. But I think when it came to Toothless, he’s meant to be a black panther meets a salamander, but the more we went toward black panther, the more we were losing his character. So, we found that we had to keep the big eyes and the big mouth and the ear plates as part of his personality.
MF: What was it like working with Gerard Butler again and watching him bring his animated character to life in live action?
DD: Well, I think when Gerard Butler was finally able to join us, because at first, he couldn’t do it due to his own schedule, I had such a breath of relief because I know Gerry well even off camera. So, I think we just have this free-flowing energy between us, and I credit him as co-creator of the character. He brought so much to it, the emotion, the nuance, the arc, even in the animated form. So being able to hand that to him and then let him use all his physicality, everything he can bring to the camera as an actor, embodying Stoick with all this mass and that costume. I knew it was going to be great from the start. He completely delivers. He’s a force of nature.
Gerard Butler in ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. Photo: Universal Pictures.
MF: Finally, Mason, what was your experience like acting opposite Gerard Butler on this movie?
MT: He’s very funny, but what I love about him is, the energy he brings to set. I mean, he is Stoick the Vast, through and through. Nobody else could play that character like him. When he gets on set and he brings this raw energy to each scene, and whenever we’re in that room, it’s Stoick and Hiccup. Running through the scene repeatedly, it really brings something to it. He’s so amazing and such an incredible actor that I love him so much. But in between takes and stuff, we all joke around and he’s a prankster.

It’s clearly the time for long-awaited sequels to much-loved movies announcing clutches of new casting to support their returning stars.
With ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ recently adding actors, it’s the turn of ‘Practical Magic 2’, which will see the return of Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as witch sisters Gillian and Sally Owens.

According to Deadline, new for the sequel will be Lee Pace (‘Foundation’), Maisie Williams (‘Game of Thrones’) Xolo Maridueña (‘Blue Beetle’), and Solly McLeod (‘The Dead Don’t Hurt’). We also now have confirmation that Joey King is officially aboard after previously being in talks.
That’s not all –– Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, who appeared alongside Bullock and Kidman in the original movie –– will reprise their roles.

What’s the story of ‘Practical Magic’?

‘Practical Magic’ adapts Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel. The movie follows two sisters, Sally (Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Kidman), who come from a long line of witches.
Orphaned at a young age, they are raised by their eccentric aunts, who embrace their magical heritage. However, the Owens family is cursed: any man who falls in love with an Owens woman is doomed to an untimely death.
Subsequently, Sally and Gillian struggle with their powers and the consequences of the family curse. Sally attempts to lead a normal life, distancing herself from magic, but tragedy strikes when her husband dies.
Gillian, on the other hand, lives a wild life, embracing her magical abilities. The sisters are reunited when Gillian finds herself in a dangerous relationship with Jimmy Angelov (Goran Visnjic), a violent man. In an effort to protect Gillian, the sisters accidentally kill Jimmy, leading to a series of supernatural events as they attempt to hide his death and ultimately break the family curse.

While there are zero official details are available for the new movie’s storyline, King’s casting does open up a narrative alley we figured they’d take.
She’ll play one of Bullock’s daughters, the one who discovers the dark family secrets and her own dark powers, plunging the family into a crisis.
As for the newcomers (beyond King), we don’t yet know their roles.
But Wiest and Channing, of course, will be Aunt Jet and Aunt Frances respectively, who always have wise words for their nieces (and now, grand-nieces).
Akiva Goldsman, who worked on the script for the original, is back, with Georgia Pritchett, a veteran of ‘Veep’ and ‘Succession,’ also credited.

She got her start with 1991’s ‘Freud Leaving Home’ and has since made the likes of ‘Like It Never Was Before,’ ‘Credo,’ ‘The One and Only,’ ‘Open Hearts,’ ‘After the Wedding,’ ‘Things We Lost in the Fire,’ ‘Serena’ and ‘In a Better World,’ which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year in 2011.
Her work has scored many other accolades and trophies, and she’s also been behind projects such as John le Carré adaptation ‘The Night Manager’ and White House drama ‘The First Lady.’ She is the first female director to win a Golden Globe, Emmy and European Film Award, collectively.
Perhaps most pertinent to ‘Practical Magic’ and its stars is her previous collaborations with both Bullock and Kidman.
Bullock starred in Bier’s Netflix thriller ‘Bird Box,’ the story of a world plunged into chaos when aliens arrive who send anyone who glimpses them mad.
As for Kidman, Bier handled HBO drama ‘The Undoing,’ which saw the actor starring alongside Hugh Grant in a murder mystery. And more recently, Bier tackled all the episodes of Netflix drama ‘The Perfect Couple,’ with Kidman playing the icy matriarch of a wealthy, dysfunctional family.
Here’s the statement from the filmmaking team on the new casting choices:
“Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman’s beloved novel and into theaters around the world, and we are thrilled to bring the Owens family back to the big screen with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter in our story. The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens’ story to new fans, and those who’ve been with us since the beginning.”
When will ‘Practical Magic 2’ be in theaters?
We do now know when Warners is looking to release the sequel –– and in theaters, rather than sending it direct to streaming service HBO Max –– September 18th, 2026.
Production is currently underway in England, so all looks good for the sequel to hit that date.

What was the story of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’?

Adapted by Aline Brosh McKenna from Lauren Weisberger’s novel and directed by David Frankel, the original follows Andy Sachs (Hathaway), a recent journalism graduate who moves to New York City and lands a job as a junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep), the powerful and demanding editor-in-chief of high-fashion magazine Runway, with Blunt as Emily, Priestly’s primary aide.
Andy initially struggles with the high-pressure environment and Miranda’s relentless demands but gradually adapts, gaining confidence and style. As she becomes more involved in her work, she faces personal challenges, including a strained relationship with her boyfriend, Nate (Adrian Grenier), and ethical dilemmas about the fashion industry’s values.
The movie was a hit, earning close to $125 million in the US and more than $326 million worldwide. Streep was nominated for an Oscar along with costume designer Patricia Field.
What would the new movie be about?
Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly in 2006’s ‘The Devil Wears Prada .’
With the cast all back for this one, the sequel’s plot would reportedly pick up the story with Priestly still the head of Runway, but the magazine has endured the financial headwinds of contemporary publishing and is in a diminished state.
Blunt’s one-time assistant would now be an executive at a luxury brand conglomerate that advertises with Runway.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Grenier won’t be back, but we do know that Branagh will be playing Miranda Priestly’s husband, which as anyone who has seen the first film knows, is not an easy gig given the hard-charging, perfectionist character’s style.
Behind the scenes, McKenna has written the new script and Frankel is once again calling the shots.

In addition to the sequel, a musical adaptation with an original score by Elton John, is playing in London’s West End.
Vanessa Williams is playing the Miranda Priestly role, and a first look at her on stage (well, rising on to it) is online via the production’s Instagram page.
Where else can we see the new cast?
Liu has appeared in a couple of recent movies, including ‘Red One’ and Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Presence’ plus more recent drama ‘Rosemead’.
Theroux was last seen in Netflix basketball comedy ‘Running Point’ and had a role in ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’. He’s most recently shot espionage drama ‘The Billion Dollar Spy’.
Beyond her ongoing ‘Bridgerton’ duties, Ashley worked on animated movie ‘The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland’ and ‘Picture This’.
Novak’s work has been more behind the scenes of late, though he did have a role in TV series ‘Poker Face’ this year, and he’s a contributor to a documentary about comedian Mitch Hedberg.
Chalamet, beyond her Timothée connection, is probably best known for Max comedy ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ and will be seen in upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Terrestrial’.
Thomas showed up in last month’s comedy ‘Home Delivery’ and is attached to crime drama movie ‘C.R.E.A.M: The American Dream’.
Feldman’s last movie credit was 2023’s ‘Good Egg,’ but he’s been more active on TV, cropping up in ‘Elsbeth’ and ‘Partner Track’.
Hearon has been seen in movies including ‘Sweethearts’ and the TV series ‘Overcompensating’, Ricamora was in ‘Fire Island’ and the ‘Prada’ sequel marks Shen’s film debut.
When will ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ be in theaters?
The sequel is currently scheduled for a May 1st, 2026 release, which should make fans of the original, who have anticipated a follow-up, happy.
