Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell clearly like starring in movies that feature the word ‘Guys’ in the title. Gosling was co-lead on ‘The Nice Guys’, Ferrell was part of ‘The Other Guys’ and now the duo is looking to team up on ‘The Tough Guys’.
The actors, who previously shared the screen in Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster smash ‘Barbie’ (Gosling as Ken, with Ferrell playing the blustery boss of Mattel), are set to reunite for the new action comedy from Amazon MGM Studios.

What’s the story of ‘The Tough Guys’?

The movie originated as a spec script by ‘Workin’ Moms’ veteran writer Daniel Gold.
‘The Tough Guys’ story reportedly follows two henchmen who are tired of being disposable and break free from the criminal underworld, rewriting the rules as they build a new life on their own terms.
It feels like a blast from the past for Ferrell in particular, who famously played mistreated henchman Mustafa in ‘Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery’ (all together now: “you shot me!!”)
Deadline mentions that there is no filmmaker attached to the movie yet, but given the star power interested, you know Amazon MGM will want to get this one moving.
Where else can we see Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell?

Ferrell is coming off the success of another Amazon MGM movie, wedding clash comedy ‘You’re Cordially Invited’. And he recently worked with the company again on ‘Judgment Day’, starring opposite Zac Efron in the story of a newly released prisoner (Efron) who takes over a TV courtroom, holding hostages while confronting the egotistical judge (Ferrell) whose previous verdict he believes destroyed his life.
He also has a variety of projects in development.
As for Gosling, he’ll next be seen in Amazon MGM’s sci-fi pic ‘Project Hail Mary’ and is sticking with outer space for the lead role in Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, which should have its cameras rolling later this year.
When will ‘The Tough Guys’ be on our screens?
With no director aboard yet, and even with the new star power, this could end up waiting a while –– especially given the actors’ busy schedule.

Bella Thorne as “Clare Bleecker” in the mystery thriller ‘Saint Clare’, a Quiver Distribution release. Photo courtesy of Quiver Distribution.
Opening in theaters, On Demand and on digital beginning July 18th is the new thriller ‘Saint Clare’, which was directed Mitzi Peirone (‘Braid’), and stars Bella Thorne (‘Blended’), Ryan Phillippe (‘The Lincoln Lawyer’), and Rebecca De Mornay (‘Risky Business’).
Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with Bella Thorne about her work on ‘Saint Clare’, her approach to her character, working with veteran actress Rebecca De Mornay, and shooting emotionally difficult scenes with Ryan Phillippe.

Moviefone: To begin with, can you talk about your approach to playing this character, how you would describe her in her own words, and her emotional arc in the movie?
Bella Thorne: How would I describe Clare? Kick ass! We love an arc. I think that we had such an interesting time going through that arc emotionally, finding that Clare hides her feelings, which is where the narration comes in in such a great way to let us know where we’re at with her. I think I just love that final ending moment, the curtain drawn in full, “You are going for it now.” I love that.

MF: What was your experience like working with Rebecca De Mornay?
BT: I love Rebecca. She’s just amazing to work with, so much fun, and charisma, and truly wants what’s best for the scene when she’s stepping on set. Even reconnecting again with her through the press and festival process has been amazing. She is just way too hot. She needs to calm down.

MF: Finally, you have some emotionally challenging scenes opposite Ryan Phillippe. What was it like working with him on those sequences?
BT: Yeah, those scenes were again, more sparring in this movie, the kind of cat and mouse game, and playing with the idea that you are anxious. This is one of the times that we really see things coming back to bite her in that way, the things that she’s done. As well as at one point there is a serious shift choice in emotionally, “I know, and I’m ahead of you in this game.” I think that that was fun to play with as well.
Editorial Note: Krisily Fernstrom conducted this interview and contributed to this article.
What is the plot of ‘Saint Clare’?
To the world, sixteen-year-old Clare Bleecker (Bella Thorne) appears to be a normal teenager: a Catholic school student, an animal lover and devout vegan living with her grandparents. But like the small town she lives in, Clare is more than she appears to be. Underneath her reserved appearance lives a sociopath with dissociative identity disorder – a serial killer.

UK comics icon Judge Dredd –– the muscular, gruff dystopian lawman who rides a hulking bike and dishes out justice while calling perps “creeps” –– is no stranger to movie screens, having been adapted twice before.
“In the future, one man is the law.”
Now, though, according to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and ‘Jojo Rabbit’ director Taika Waititi is looking to bring his own idiosyncratic style to the character for a new movie.
And he’s recruited Drew Pearce, the writer/director behind ‘Hotel Artemis’ but more known for scripting movies such as ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Iron Man 3’, to handle the writing side of things.

What’s the story of ‘Judge Dredd’?
(L to R) Diane Lane and Sylvester Stallone in ‘Judge Dredd’. Photo: Buena Vista Pictures Distribution.
Created in the late 1970s by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, the character of Dredd debuted in the pages of weekly British anthology 2000 AD.
He is a police officer in the bleak future metropolis of Mega-City One, part of a law enforcement corps that empowers officers to be judge, jury, and executioner.
The character and his stories were a satire on a judicial system taken to the extreme. Dredd proved hugely popular, engendering several more comics and comics strips, video and board games, books, and even postage stamps in the United Kingdom.
Given what’s happening on America’s streets right now, the concept feels less like satire and more like documentary, but it’s also certainly rich territory for Waititi, who has put his own stamp on even the MCU.
As mentioned above, if it goes through this would represent the third produced version of the character, following the big-budget 1995 adaptation ‘Judge Dredd’ starring Sylvester Stallone that was harshly judged by critics and audiences.
More warmly was the reception for ‘Dredd,’ a 2012 adaptation that starred Karl Urban with a script by ‘28 Days Later’ and ‘Civil War’s Alex Garland.
There are few official details for how Waititi and Pearce’s version will differ, but they apparently both grew up on the comics. Dredd might be more of a risk, though, as Waititi has tried to tackle classic sci-fi in the past, with ‘Akira’ slipping through his fingers.
What else does Taika Waititi have in development?

Waititi has been a little quieter of late since 2023’s soccer comedy drama ‘Next Goal Wins’, but he has new movie ‘Klara and the Sun’ on the way this year.
He’s also attached as a director to a planned prequel series based on ‘Young Frankenstein’.
As an actor, he’ll show up in fantasy adventure ‘Fing!’ and drama ‘Place to Be’.
When will ‘Judge Dredd’ be on our screens?
While we’re sure this will be snapped up by a studio quickly, the Dredd project will likely still take a while to properly come together.

“They’re living their best lies.”
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that she’ll lead new action comedy ‘Bad Day’, which has ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’ and ‘Jury Duty’ director Jake Szymanski attached to oversee the movie.

Written by Laura Solon, the original script for the new movie focuses on a single mother fighting to keep one little promise to her daughter on the absolute worst day of her life.
The project has been described as a comedic version of ‘Falling Down,’ the 1993 drama directed by Joel Schumacher that starred Michael Douglas as a man who hits his breaking point while trying to get to his daughter’s birthday party.
Solon will be an executive producer as will Mark Moran. This is the third collaboration for the Solon and producer Beau Bauman, who previously worked together on comedies ‘Office Christmas Party’ and ‘Let It Snow’. The writer came up with the script on spec, with Bauman helping to develop it –– and he has one more connection, as he was a producer on ‘Back in Action’.

‘Back in Action, which saw Diaz and Jamie Foxx as a seemingly ordinary couple whose espionage past comes back to impact their family life, marked the actor’s return to movies following a decade-long break after 2014’s ‘Annie’ (also featuring Foxx).
Following that, she was announced as reprising the voice role of Fiona in ‘Shrek 5′, which will be in theaters on December 23rd, 2026. That movie sees Zendaya joining the cast as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter.
She is also part of the cast of Jonah Hill’s new directorial effort ‘Outcome’, starring Keanu Reeves as Hollywood star Reef, forced to confront his problems and atone for his past after being threatened by a bizarre video footage from his past. That has yet to lock down a release date.
When will ‘Bad Day’ be on screens?
Netflix is looking to get this one moving as quickly as possible, with a fall shoot planned for New York and New Jersey.
That said, we’ll wait and see when the streaming service puts the movie out on its servers, but assuming the movie shoots later this year, it should be out at some point in 2026.

(Left) Luis Guzmán in ‘Guns Up’. Photo: Vertical.
Out now in theaters is ‘Guns Up,’ directed by Edward Drake and starring Kevin James, Christina Ricci, Luis Guzman, Timothy V. Murphy, Francis Cronin, and Melissa Leo.
In ‘Guns Up,’ Luis Guzman plays Ignatius, the right hand man of a mob boss and friend to Ray Hayes (Kevin James), a former cop who works as an enforcer for the organization and is looking to get out.
Guzman’s ability to move effortlessly from the serious to the comedic has landed him roles in dozens of films and TV shows, and he’s worked with directors like Steven Soderbergh and Paul Thomas Anderson multiple times. In addition to ‘Guns Up’ and the recent thriller ‘Havoc,’ Guzman will return this fall in Season 2 of the blockbuster Netflix series ‘Wednesday’ as Gomez, patriarch of the Addams family and father to the title character (Jenna Ortega).
Moviefone had the pleasure of speaking exclusively with this versatile actor about getting the role in ‘Guns Up,’ working with Kevin James and Christina Ricci, and what we can expect next from ‘Wednesday.’

(L to R) Kevin James, Christina Ricci and Luis Guzmán in ‘Guns Up’. Photo: Vertical.
Moviefone: Let’s start with ‘Guns Up.’ What struck you about this script and character?
Luis Guzmán: Well, it was funny. They called me on a Monday. They offered me the part on Monday and they said, “Can you fly in tomorrow to start shooting Wednesday?” I go, “Okay, guys, maybe it’d be a good idea that I read the script because you offered me the part. I have not read the script.” So I got the script later that day. I read it that night. I thought it was really cool and different. I liked the whole genre of action/comedy and the fact that I was going to have an opportunity to work with Kevin James and Christina Ricci and to do a scene with Melissa Leo. I was like, “Oh, wow, this is great.” But it also a lot also had to do with the writer/director, Edward Drake. I just dug his vibe, his flow. That got me really interested. I dug the character because initially in the beginning, there’s a mystery to this guy. Is he a bad guy? Because he seems like a bad guy. But as the movie progresses it’s like, oh, okay, it’s shifting. It’s shifting…So yeah, that kind of drew me in.
MF: Ignatius seems like he’s there to facilitate whoever’s in charge at the moment, but at the same time it feels like he’s also got the big picture in mind.
LG: Absolutely. So like I said, for me in that sense, it was quite fun. It was a good shoot. It was a really good crew of people, considering all the action that was going on, the shooting and all that stuff. Nobody got hurt. We had great, great stunt coordinators on the show who kept everybody safe. For me that made it really cool. I just really dug how organic it was because I don’t like to be predictable, and this film, again, just gave me the opportunity to just do my thing and have fun.
Kevin James in ‘Guns Up’. Photo: Vertical.
MF: Kevin is mainly known for comedy. Is it interesting to play opposite a guy like him and watch him do something that he’s not known for, and also to play off that yourself and see how he’s trying to stretch himself?
LG: See, I never think about those things because then again, for me, it becomes a little predictable. I, personally, like to be organic. Even though I know Kevin is maybe a comedic actor, I’m not thinking about him as a comedic actor. I’m thinking about him in that moment, in that role, and what’s going on, what’s happening, what are we doing?
MF: What’s the first thing you do when you get to set on the first day? How do you prepare?
LG: I just show up. For me, always, the first day is the hardest day because you are just trying to find the vibe. Because again, I always find that on my first day, I’m discovering things. Once I start working and whoever else I’m working with, and I get the flow back from them, then that really triggers me into what I’m going to do, how I’m going to approach all this stuff. So that’s how basically it works for me.
(L to R) Christina Ricci and Kevin James in ‘Guns Up’. Photo: Vertical.
MF: Any particular days on this shoot that you remember as being especially challenging, or when something funny and unexpected happened?
LG: Well, my first night of shooting actually, we shot underneath the Bayonne Bridge. We’re on the water, and it’s night, and [it was] just beautiful. You saw the Manhattan skyline in the background and it was just a beautiful shot. You appreciate that because there’s a certain artistry to that. Also, it was dark. I’m making this whole speech to all these bad guys, wannabes, and stuff like that, and I’m owning it. I’m owning that moment. But like I said, it was just such a beautiful setting.
MF: You are an actor who is constantly working. Is it a satisfying feeling for you to have such a long career and be as busy as you are?
LG: Oh, man, it is 100% satisfying. It kind of blows me away because I always tell my friends and family, it’s nice to be wanted, but it’s also the fact that I have established myself and I get phone calls to do this and to do that. I mean, Jesus Christ, man, just for me right now, I’m just playing this iconic role of Gomez on ‘Wednesday.’ The great John Astin did it, the wonderful Raul Julia did it. Here I am doing it. I’m just honored and blown away. Listen, I’ve been doing this for a long time. I pinch myself every day. I’m like, wow. So again, it’s nice to be wanted but, and I’ve said this many times, I’ll say it again. I guess the biggest asset that I have about myself is being humble, and that’s why I keep getting called back to do stuff. I show up not only to be an artist, but to complement other artists, whether they’re a director, actors, producers, makeup, hair, wardrobe. It’s all a beautiful artistic collaboration and I’m just honored to be a part of all that.
Luis Guzmán on the set of ‘Wednesday’ season 1. Photo: Netflix.
MF: You and Christina didn’t get to interact on Season 1 of ‘Wednesday,’ but was it fun to work with her on ‘Guns Up’ and also maybe talk about that connection?
LG: Well, it was great working with her on ‘Guns Up.’ I think we just mentioned [‘Wednesday’] on the first day. But I got to tell you, man, Christina was so laser-focused on this. I love her character. I love the reveal of her character. She was really spot on, 100% committed to what she was doing. So for me, again, it was fun working with her.
MF: You mentioned John Astin and Raul Julia playing the part of Gomez. What do you do to make the role your own?
LG: Well, my approach is quite simple. I am a loving husband, a loving father. I love my family. Being an outcast is something that I’m proud of. I use the word organic a lot, but that’s how I approach it. Listen, you get to work with Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Isaac Ordenez who plays my son, and we really click so well together. It’s a beautiful family. So for me, like I said, because you see how Raul and Anjelica Huston did their roles, you saw how John Astin did his role, and it’s just a continuation of love.
(L to R) Luis Guzmán and Isaac Ordonez in season 1 of ‘Wednesday’. Photo: Netflix.
MF: What can we expect in Season 2 of ‘Wednesday’?
LG: They blew the lid off it. The first season was pretty spectacular. I told the writers, “How are you guys going to outdo this?” Believe me, they went beyond it. I was blown away. Audiences are going to be so, so happy to see the show come back. Tim Burton, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and their team of writers really outdid themselves. Just the best cast, the best crew. It’s a real collaboration of artists and it’s beautiful.
MF: Finally, you’ve worked multiple times with great directors — Steven Soderbergh, Paul Thomas Anderson, Brian De Palma. Do you see a similarity between the way they work or the vision that they have, and do you see that in some of the newer directors that you work with these days?
LG: I think they’re all different because they approach their artistry differently. All their visions are different. What they have in common is that they’re all artists, but they all do their thing differently and the outcome is wonderful.

Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) is a top student at the FBI’s training academy. Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn) wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into a case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out.
“To enter the mind of a killer she must challenge the mind of a madman.”
