“People get caught up in that energy, and they believe the story.” Universal unveiled a fascinating making of featurette for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie, ready to land in theaters this June during the summer. This highly anticipated remake of the beloved animated classic has already received rave reviews after premiering at CinemaCon last month. The original HTTYD opened back in 2010, which went on to get two more sequels. The story follows a young Viking boy as he aspires to help hunt dragons, and how he becomes unexpectedly a friend of a young dragon he decides to name Toothless. From the same director as all three of the original animated movies that came before – Dean DeBlois is behind this live-action one as well. In this new HTTYD movie, Mason Thames (seen in The Black Phone) stars as Hiccup, Gerard Butler as Stoick, Nico Parker as Astrid, with Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, plus Peter Serafinowicz & Murray McArthur. This is a great promo featurette, spending plenty of time with Dean as he talks about making this movie real – building massive sets with full-on realistic costumes and props and more. Yep this is going to be fantastic.

On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his role from the movies), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society. With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (Nico Parker) and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader. ????
How To Train Your Dragon (live-action) is once again written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Dean DeBlois, director of the original three animated How to Train Your Dragon movies previously, plus a few music videos and other projects. The story is inspired by Cressida Cowell’s NY Times bestselling book series. It’s produced by Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, and Dean DeBlois. This new How To Train Your Dragon is part of the Filmed For IMAX Program. Universal Pictures will debut the live-action How To Train Your Dragon movie in theaters nationwide starting June 13th, 2025 coming up this summer. Who wants to watch this?

by Alex Billington
May 1, 2025
Source: YouTube

“The chocolate had awakened all my sense.” Ahaha yes I remember this experience, too – chocolate make everything better. France has revealed the first official trailer for an animated film titled Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, or just Little Amélie for short. This 75-minute movie is premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, one of the only animated movies as part of the main official selection this year. Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes is a French production about Amélie, a Belgian child in Japan, who loves the outdoors and is caught up in the spectacular beauty of nature. The story explores life with her companion Nishio-san. Her third birthday becomes a turning point, marking the beginning of life-altering events that shape her understanding of the world. With the voices of Emmylou Homs, Loïse Charpentier, Laetitia Coryn, Yumi Fujimori, and Isaac Schoumsky. It also features a vivid painterly style with simple 2D animation. This looks so beautiful! It’s going to be a delightful film about growing up and the magic of the outdoors and everything wonderful. Click on [cc] to get English subtitles watching the trailer below. Enjoy.
Here’s the first international trailer for Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, direct from YouTube:

Follows the young Amélie – born in Japan to Belgian parents – as she navigates an extraordinary early childhood. For the first two-and-a-half years of her life, she exists in a state of pure sensation, detached from typical human experiences – metaphorically described as “a digestive tube, inert and vegetative”. But on her third birthday, a transformative event awakens her to the world. Over the next six months, she discovers language, family, a heavenly garden, Japan, water, the changing seasons and the passage of time. Drawing on the Japanese belief that children are considered divine until the age of three, the film explores how this brief period, filled with joy & sorrow, is a foundational element in shaping her identity.
Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, originally known as Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes in French, is co-directed by filmmakers Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang (animator on The Illusionist, Long Way North, Ethel & Ernest, Calamity a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary) & Mailys Vallade (of The Lighthouse Keeper short, artist on Calamity a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary), making their feature directorial debut with this project. The screenplay is written by Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang, Eddine Noël, Aude Py, and Mailys Vallade. Adapted from the book written by Amélie Nothomb. Produced by Claire La Combe, Edwina Liard, Henri Magalon, and Nidia Santiago. The film is premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the Special Screenings section. Opening first in France in June 2025 this summer. No US release date is set yet.

Eva Victor & Naomi Ackie & Lucas Hedges in A24’s ‘Sorry, Baby’ Trailer
by Alex Billington
May 1, 2025
Source: YouTube
“We know what you’re going through, we are women.” “What…?” A24 has unveiled an official trailer for an acclaimed indie film titled Sorry, Baby, from filmmaker Eva Victor who is making her feature debut as a writer & director & star in this Sundance hit. The film premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and was heralded as one of the best films of the fest with exceptional reviews all-around (it’s currently at 95% on RT). The only brief synopsis states very vaguely: Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on… for everyone around her, at least. Eva Victor stars in a very personal story examining her life before and after a traumatic in June in the middle of the summer – and it’s likely to become a big indie hit this year. An entirely original, clever, extremely smart film that introduces a distinct voice offering a different take on this important story.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Eva Victor’s film Sorry, Baby, direct from A24’s YouTube:

Via Sundance: “Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on… for everyone around her, at least. In an aching and tender debut feature, writer-director Eva Victor displays a tremendous specificity of voice, depicting graduate student-turned-professor Agnes with sensitivity and emotional clarity both before & after her trauma. Infusing [Agnes’] sardonic wit into its cinematic language of isolation & confusion, Sorry, Baby uses its nonlinear formal structure and five-year duration to capture the complexities and inconsistencies, triumphs and setbacks of Agnes’ attempts to heal.” Sorry, Baby is written and directed by French-American filmmaker / comedian / writer / actress Eva Victor, making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films previously. Produced by Mark Ceryak, Barry Jenkins, and Adele Romanski. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and won the Best Screenplay Award. A24 debuts Victor’s Sorry, Baby film in select US theaters starting June 27th, 2025. Who wants to watch?
