Watch: Mesmerizing Short ‘Slow Light’ About a Man with Slow Eyes
by Alex Billington
July 28, 2025
Source: Vimeo

“One monument cannot redeem all my mistakes… If I could only see her again…” ✨ This is a must watch animated short film – only 11 minutes long. Slow Light is a 2D stop-motion animated short film created by two Polish filmmakers known as Kijek / Adamski. After being screened at over a hundred festivals, Slow Light is now available online for everyone to watch. Slow Light tells the story of a man who can only see the past as it takes seven years for the light to travel through his eyeballs (because they’re so dense). A clever riff of the way light travels from distant stars. “To convey this story, we used two animation techniques: the past is animated in traditional 2D, while the present takes the form of tactile relief, shot in stop motion. We shot all the elements and combined them with the 2D animation to unify the shifted storylines.” It’s a beautiful & especially distinct creation, a parable about life and how we need to stop living in the past. This story also reminds of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which I’ve always found to be deeply moving. View below.

“I see you colored it in…” “Do you think it made it less scary?” Ha ha. Angel Studios has revealed a third official trailer for Sketch, hitting theaters in August this summer. Opening nationwide in just a few weeks! It’s a magical adventure comedy from filmmaker Seth Worley making his feature directorial debut. A young girl’s monster drawings begin to come alive, unleashing chaos upon her small town. This premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival last year and earned tons of fantastic reviews. A single dad is swept up in an insane adventure when his daughter’s comically dark drawings in her sketchbook come to life and terrorize their small town. The indie film stars Tony Hale, D’Arcy Carden, Kue Lawrence, Kalon Cox, Jaxen Kenner, Genesis Rose Brown, and introducing Bianca Belle as Amber. This movie looks serious fun and entirely wholesome, even with all the weird creatures she conjures up. It seems like a good one to enjoy.

Official Trailer for ‘Der Tiger’ – Gritty German World War II Tank Movie
by Alex Billington
July 28, 2025
Source: YouTube

“The enemy knows we’re here. Is that not clear to you?” Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the official trailer for a WWII tank movie called Der Tiger, a German movie that will be playing in German cinemas. It’ll eventually be streaming on Prime Video, but this trailer (including English subtitles) is announcing that it’ll play in movie theaters first in September. The five-man crew of a German Tiger tank is sent on a secret mission far beyond the Nazi’s front line. Fueled by the Wehrmacht’s drug addiction, their mission becomes a journey into the heart of darkness. As they journey eastward, the soldiers not only find themselves deeper in enemy territory but must also face their own fears and inner demons. Made by Pantaleon Films along with Amazon MGM Germany, from the same director of the German hit The Wave (Die Welle). Starring David Schütter, Laurence Rupp, Leonard Kunz, Sebastian Urzendowsky, Yoran Leicher. Tank movies are almost a sub-genre of their own: first there was Lebanon (2009), then there was Fury (2014) with Brad Pitt, then there was the Russian movie T-34 (plus The Beast of War from 1988). They’re marketing this as an “anti-war” movie about how destructive and horrible war is – this definitely looks like it gets bleak as hell.
Here’s the official US trailer for Dennis Gansel’s tank movie Der Tiger, direct from MGM’s YouTube:

Autumn 1943, Eastern Front: A five-man crew of a German Tiger tank is sent on a secret mission deep behind enemy lines. But what begins as a clear order quickly turns into a journey into the moral abyss. Between drug addiction, fear, and growing inner emptiness, the boundary between man and machine breaks down – and with it the belief in meaning, order and comradeship… Der Tiger is directed by German filmmaker Dennis Gansel, director of the movies Das Phantom, Girls on Top, Before the Fall, The Wave, We Are the Night, The Fourth State, Mechanic: Resurrection, Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver + Jim Button and the Wild 13 previously, and the “Das Boot” remake series most recently. The screenplay is co-written by Dennis Gansel and Colin Teevan. It’s produced by Frank Kusche and Dan Maag. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Amazon MGM Studios will debut Gansel’s Der Tiger movie first in German cinemas (at CineStar locations) only starting September 18th, 2025 coming soon. It will also be streaming on Prime Video globally later this year. Who wants to watch? Looking good?

One Final Trailer for ‘The Occupant’ Mysterious Sci-Fi Survival Thriller
by Alex Billington
July 28, 2025
Source: YouTube

“I found something extraordinary… I’ve never seen anything like it.” Decal Releasing has debuted a second & final trailer for The Occupant, a mysterious sci-fi survival thriller film from filmmaker Hugo Keijzer. It recently premiered at the 2025 SXSW London Film Festival and is opening in limited US theaters very soon – in early August. A gripping and uniquely strange sci-fi thriller starring one woman, set up in the remote Georgian taiga, The Occupant stars Ella Balinska, Stuart Graham, Rob Delaney. When Abby, a guilt-ridden engineering geologist in transit from her remote assignment survives a strange helicopter crash, she must try to escape the harsh environment and make her way back home to safety. But she’s not alone. She is talking to someone on her walkie-talkine hoping to find a way out – but is this voice even real? “A twisty and inventive survival thriller” that will keep you on edge up until the last minute. This is the third official trailer for this little indie film, which I hope finds an audience. They’re really hoping all these intriguing trailers will get your attention. Who wants to watch? I really want to find out what this weird rock is that she found.
Here’s the second official trailer for Hugo Keijzer’s survival thriller The Occupant, direct from YouTube:

You can view the teaser trailer for Hugo Keijzer’s The Occupant right here or the other main official trailer.
British actress Ella Balinska is Abby, a desperate geologist who takes a high-paying, high-risk mining job in the remote wilds of Northern Georgia to fund her sister’s experimental cancer treatment. But when her chopper goes down and her radio becomes her only lifeline, Abby finds herself in a survival scenario that’s equal parts icy terrain & psychological warfare. Enter John (Rob Delaney), a mysterious voice on the other end. He’s charming, he’s helpful… and he might not be real. As Abby’s oxygen thins and her doubts rise, the real question isn’t how she’ll get out, but who she’s talking to… and what he wants. Is she really talking to someone who can help, someone who claims to “know exactly how she feels right now”? Scared, alone, and no idea how to get to safety. The Occupant is directed by the indie filmmaker Hugo Keijzer, making his feature directorial debut after many other short films previously. The screenplay is written by Philip Michael Howe, Hugo Keijzer, Roelof Jan Minneboo, Xiao Tang. Produced by Kwesi Dickson, Isabel Freer, Jay Taylor, Raymond van der Kaaij. This premiered at the 2025 SXSW London Film Festival recently. Decal will debut The Occupant in select US theaters + on VOD starting August 8th, 2025. Who’s curious?
