“Think of this as a conversation to get to the truth… I wanna get to the real stuff!” Ohhh this looks wild. Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a brand new sketch comedy series called Bad Thoughts, arriving to watch starting May. “Step into Tom Segura’s twisted world, where he spins his signature dark humor into wildly unexpected and laugh-out-loud tales – and lets his intrusive thoughts win.” This looks properly cathartic and seriously F’d up! As it should! This showcases a series of vignettes where the stories unfold in a in a hilariously disturbing way. It’s also described as “Black Mirror by way of David Cronenberg, if he were tripping on mushrooms.” Featuring everything from prosthetic genitals, conjoined twins, deepfakes — and one horrified Peruvian mom. And lots of guest stars, of course. “The project began as a few short films the stand-up comic wrote between tour stops. He pitched them to director Rami Hachache, and after an intense 11-day shoot, they had enough material to convince Netflix to order a full series.” This reminds me of how much I miss “Key & Peele”, and how brilliant they were creating sketch comedy segments like these. Enjoy.

Emma Mackey & Fiona Shaw Go to Spain in ‘Hot Milk’ Thriller Trailer
by Alex Billington
April 30, 2025
Source: YouTube

“I’d rather be dead than shackled.” IFC Films has revealed an official trailer for Hot Milk, an indie thriller from screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz (of Ida, Disobedience, Colette, She Said, The Salt Path) making her feature directorial debut. This originally premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival a few months ago, but got mostly mixed to negative reviews from critics. I wish it was better. In this, Sofia travels to the Spanish coast with her domineering mother, who seeks a cure for a strange illness. A tantalizing world awaits Sofia, if she can escape her mother’s demands. The mother and daughter stay in a seaside town called Almería (see Google Maps), where they consult a peculiar healer who might help solve her mother’s problems. While waiting for the treatment, Sofia falls in with an older woman who sweeps her off her feet. Starring Emma Mackey, Fiona Shaw, Pasty Ferran, Yann Gael, Vangelis Mourikis, Vincent Perez, and Vicky Krieps as Ingrid. I caught this at Berlinale with everyone else and it’s such a frustrating mess. Also none of us could figure out why it’s called Hot Milk – there’s no milk anywhere & it has nothing to do with the story.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s film Hot Milk, direct from YouTube:

Set in the scorching heat of a Spanish summer, the film follows Rose (Fiona Shaw) and her daughter Sofia (Emma Mackey) as they travel to the town of Almería to consult with Gómez (Vincent Perez) an enigmatic healer who may hold the key to Rose’s mysterious illness, which has led her to now use a wheelchair. But in the sun-drenched town, Sofia, trapped till now by her mother’s condition, begins to shed her inhibitions as she is drawn to the magnetic charms of a free spirited traveler, Ingrid (Vicky Krieps). Sofia’s increased freedom becomes too much for her controlling mother, and as the hot sun beats down, their relationship simmers with pent-up resentments and bitterness, threatening to tear the fragile threads that hold them together. Hot Milk is written and directed by British writer / filmmaker Rebecca Lenkiewicz, making her feature directorial debut after writing the scripts for Ida, Disobedience, Colette, Servants, She Said, and The Salt Path previously. Based on the book “Hot Milk” by Deborah Levy. Produced by Christine Langan, Kate Glover, & Giorgos Karnavas. This initially premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. IFC Films will debut Hot Milk in US theaters starting on June 27th, 2025 coming soon. Anyone into this film?

Rockin’ New 41st Anniversary Trailer for ‘This is Spinal Tap’ Rock Doc
by Alex Billington
April 30, 2025
Source: YouTube

“I wanted to capture the sights, the sounds, the smells, of a hardworking rock band on the road.” It’s time for Spinal Tap to rock your face off – again! Bleecker Street has launched a trailer for the 41st Anniversary “Golden” celebration / re-release of the iconic rock classic This is Spinal Tap. For the uninitiated, This is Spinal Tap is Rob Reiner & Christopher Guest’s badass mockumentary – it’s an entirely fake film presented as a real documentary about a fake band. This Is Spinal Tap chronicles England’s loudest and most punctual band on their disaster-filled U.S. tour. Experience the remastered, remixed, and definitive version of what can only be described as a mockumentary masterpiece. The original This is Spinal Tap debuted in 1984 as Reiner’s very first feature. It’s the film where “turn it up to 11” comes from. It also recently screened at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival before they started filming the sequel – Spinal Tap II, due out later this year (in September). “The cult comedy classic of the 80s, brimming with energy and grease-stained humor, where the music is amped up to 11 and the lights are explosive!” With Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Rob Reiner, June Chadwick, Tony Hendra, Bruno Kirby. This film rules – rock on.
Here’s the 41st Anniversary trailer (+ poster) for Rob Reiner’s rock doc This is Spinal Tap, on YouTube:

This Is Spinal Tap shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs, gold albums, name changes and undersold concert dates, along with the full host of requisite groupies, promoters, hangers-on and historians, sessions, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real. This is Spinal Tap is a classic rock mockumentary directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner, his very first feature film before going on to make The Sure Thing (1985) and Stand By Me (1986) right after this. It’s written by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Rob Reiner. Produced by Karen Murphy. This originally opened in theaters in March 1984 and it also played at the USA Film Festival. It was added to the National Film Registry in 2002. Bleecker Street is releasing the sequel Spinal Tap II later this year. The original This is Spinal Tap will play again in US theaters starting July 5th, 2025. Stop by their official site.
