Source: YouTube

“You sent me the invite to play here, didn’t you? You set this whole thing so my band would get killed off…” While we’re waiting for any updates on any new movies directed by Robert Rodriguez (aka “RR”), in the meantime he’s cooked up a brand new music video to enjoy. Rodriguez co-directed this gnarly horror music video with special FX legend Greg Nicotero – it’s a werewolf and monster-filled hard rock music video for Mammoth WVH’s song “The End.” The band features the lead singer & guitarist Wolfgang Van Halen, who also stars in this music video. There’s more than just the song – the video has bookends which setup the story and wrap things up with a fun finale. When they finally start playing in this small venue, everything turns to mayhem when the crowd of concertgoers transforms into monsters. At first it’s a big hairy werewolf, but then others start turning into various creepers and zombies and other horrifying monsters. It’s a bloody good time! There’s also a cameo by Danny Trejo along with many others in this horror short. Watch below.

Thanks to Twitter for the tip on this video debuting online. “Break me out of this, Here we are ignoring it. Take your hand in mine and, Watch the end with me…” This horror music video for the band Mammoth’s song “The End” is co-directed by acclaimed genre filmmakers Robert Rodriguez (director of El Mariachi, Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Faculty, Spy Kids 1-4, Grindhouse’s Planet Terror, Machete 1 & 2, Sin City & Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Alita: Battle Angel, We Can Be Heroes, Hypnotic, and Spy Kids: Armageddon) & Greg Nicotero (special FX and horror make-up legend who got his start with George A. Romero; and also on Evil Dead II, Creepshow 2, Predator, Phantasm II, DeepStar Six, Tremors). The music video short film is written by Wolfgang Van Halen & Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez wrote on Twitter: “I LOVED directing this epic video for Wolf Van Halen’s KILLER new track ‘The End’ along with my pal Greg Nicotero.” The music video stars Danny Trejo, Wolf Van Halen, Garrett Whitlock, Jon Jourdan, Ronnie Ficarro, Frank Sidoris, Valerie Bertinelli, Rogue Rodriguez, Rhiannon Rodriguez, Myles & Selena Kennedy and Slash. “People get caught up in that energy, and they believe the story.” Universal unveiled a fascinating making of featurette for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie, ready to land in theaters this June during the summer. This highly anticipated remake of the beloved animated classic has already received rave reviews after premiering at CinemaCon last month. The original HTTYD opened back in 2010, which went on to get two more sequels. The story follows a young Viking boy as he aspires to help hunt dragons, and how he becomes unexpectedly a friend of a young dragon he decides to name Toothless. From the same director as all three of the original animated movies that came before – Dean DeBlois is behind this live-action one as well. In this new HTTYD movie, Mason Thames (seen in The Black Phone) stars as Hiccup, Gerard Butler as Stoick, Nico Parker as Astrid, with Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, plus Peter Serafinowicz & Murray McArthur. This is a great promo featurette, spending plenty of time with Dean as he talks about making this movie real – building massive sets with full-on realistic costumes and props and more. Yep this is going to be fantastic.

by Alex Billington
May 1, 2025
Source: YouTube

“The chocolate had awakened all my sense.” Ahaha yes I remember this experience, too – chocolate make everything better. France has revealed the first official trailer for an animated film titled Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, or just Little Amélie for short. This 75-minute movie is premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, one of the only animated movies as part of the main official selection this year. Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes is a French production about Amélie, a Belgian child in Japan, who loves the outdoors and is caught up in the spectacular beauty of nature. The story explores life with her companion Nishio-san. Her third birthday becomes a turning point, marking the beginning of life-altering events that shape her understanding of the world. With the voices of Emmylou Homs, Loïse Charpentier, Laetitia Coryn, Yumi Fujimori, and Isaac Schoumsky. It also features a vivid painterly style with simple 2D animation. This looks so beautiful! It’s going to be a delightful film about growing up and the magic of the outdoors and everything wonderful. Click on [cc] to get English subtitles watching the trailer below. Enjoy.
Here’s the first international trailer for Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, direct from YouTube:

Follows the young Amélie – born in Japan to Belgian parents – as she navigates an extraordinary early childhood. For the first two-and-a-half years of her life, she exists in a state of pure sensation, detached from typical human experiences – metaphorically described as “a digestive tube, inert and vegetative”. But on her third birthday, a transformative event awakens her to the world. Over the next six months, she discovers language, family, a heavenly garden, Japan, water, the changing seasons and the passage of time. Drawing on the Japanese belief that children are considered divine until the age of three, the film explores how this brief period, filled with joy & sorrow, is a foundational element in shaping her identity.
Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, originally known as Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes in French, is co-directed by filmmakers Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang (animator on The Illusionist, Long Way North, Ethel & Ernest, Calamity a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary) & Mailys Vallade (of The Lighthouse Keeper short, artist on Calamity a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary), making their feature directorial debut with this project. The screenplay is written by Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang, Eddine Noël, Aude Py, and Mailys Vallade. Adapted from the book written by Amélie Nothomb. Produced by Claire La Combe, Edwina Liard, Henri Magalon, and Nidia Santiago. The film is premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the Special Screenings section. Opening first in France in June 2025 this summer. No US release date is set yet.

Eva Victor & Naomi Ackie & Lucas Hedges in A24’s ‘Sorry, Baby’ Trailer
by Alex Billington
May 1, 2025
Source: YouTube
“We know what you’re going through, we are women.” “What…?” A24 has unveiled an official trailer for an acclaimed indie film titled Sorry, Baby, from filmmaker Eva Victor who is making her feature debut as a writer & director & star in this Sundance hit. The film premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and was heralded as one of the best films of the fest with exceptional reviews all-around (it’s currently at 95% on RT). The only brief synopsis states very vaguely: Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on… for everyone around her, at least. Eva Victor stars in a very personal story examining her life before and after a traumatic in June in the middle of the summer – and it’s likely to become a big indie hit this year. An entirely original, clever, extremely smart film that introduces a distinct voice offering a different take on this important story.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Eva Victor’s film Sorry, Baby, direct from A24’s YouTube:

Via Sundance: “Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on… for everyone around her, at least. In an aching and tender debut feature, writer-director Eva Victor displays a tremendous specificity of voice, depicting graduate student-turned-professor Agnes with sensitivity and emotional clarity both before & after her trauma. Infusing [Agnes’] sardonic wit into its cinematic language of isolation & confusion, Sorry, Baby uses its nonlinear formal structure and five-year duration to capture the complexities and inconsistencies, triumphs and setbacks of Agnes’ attempts to heal.” Sorry, Baby is written and directed by French-American filmmaker / comedian / writer / actress Eva Victor, making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films previously. Produced by Mark Ceryak, Barry Jenkins, and Adele Romanski. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and won the Best Screenplay Award. A24 debuts Victor’s Sorry, Baby film in select US theaters starting June 27th, 2025. Who wants to watch?

by Alex Billington
May 1, 2025
Source: YouTube

“Power core stable?” “No, we’re gonna die!” An official trailer has debuted for an indie sci-fi adventure film titled Tim Travers & the Time Traveler’s Paradox, from filmmaker Stimson Snead making his feature directorial debut after many other shorts. This premiered at the 2024 Cinequest Film Festival last year, and is now set for release in limited theaters on May 30th this summer. What kind of trouble will Tim get into while time traveling? The film explores the age-old question: What happens if you travel back in time and eliminate your younger self? Terminally bored mad genius Tim Travers seeks to find the answer and unravel the time traveler’s paradox. The Result? A crazy comedic adventure beyond comprehension. Starring actor Samuel Dunning as Tim Travers, with Danny Trejo, Joel McHale, Keith David (as God?!), Felicia Day, and many others. This actually looks appropriately kooky and amusing and fun – nice to see another original time travel concept. All sci-fi geeks should keep an eye out for this one opening later in the month.
Official trailer for Stimson Snead’s film Tim Travers & the Time Traveler’s Paradox, from YouTube:

Tim Travers seeks to solve the time travelers paradox. The classic thought experiment of what would happen if you killed your past self. Would it–for example–literally destroy the universe? Tim Travers, self-hating mad genius, is going to find out! Along the way, he’ll piss off an international crime syndicate led by Royce (Danny Trejo), engage in a battle of wills with conspiracy theorist radio host James Bunratty (Joel McHale), even attempt to squeeze in a date in with the dangerously unstable Delilah (Felicia Day). Tim will have to learn how to literally coexist with the worst parts of himself, before his own demons destroy him and the universe with it. Tim Travers & the Time Traveler’s Paradox is written and directed by acclaimed indie filmmaker Stimson Snead, making his feature directorial debut after many other short films and creative projects previously. Produced by Kylie Walchuk and Casey Cowan. This first premiered at the 2024 Cinequest Film Festival last year.
