Hulu’s Spunky Sex Comedy ‘Summer of 69’ Trailer with Chloe Fineman
by Alex Billington
May 2, 2025
Source: YouTube

“If you’re a good dancer, you’re good in bed.” Hulu has unveiled an official trailer for Summer of 69, a coming-of-age high school comedy about a girl who tries to learn the (in)famous 69 sex position. No relation to Bryan Adam’s classic rock song also called “Summer of 69”, though they probably do use the song in it at some point. An awkward high school senior named Abby hires an exotic dancer to help seduce her longtime crush before graduation by learning a specific sexual position. She enlists the help of a local stripper to learn some sex moves, leading to unexpected friendship and important lessons in self-confidence, acceptance, and adulthood. She also learns that true self-discovery and lasting friendship are more valuable. Starring Chloe Fineman as Abby, Sam Morelos, Matt Cornett, Nicole Byer, Liza Koshy, Natalie Morales, Alex Moffat, Fernando Carsa, Paula Pell, and Charlie Day. This doesn’t look as all-out funny as it should, but who knows, maybe the best jokes aren’t in this trailer. After premiering at SXSW it’s out on Hulu soon.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Jillian Bell’s sex comedy Summer of 69, from Hulu’s YouTube:

Abby Flores (Chloe Fineman) spends her high school days playing video games and fantasizing about her forever crush Max Warren. When she discovers that Max is finally single in the last week of school, Abby knows she must do whatever it takes to land the guy of her dreams before it’s too late. In talking to her only confidante, the school mascot, Abby finds out Max’s favorite sexual position is 69. In an effort to go from 0 to 69, Abby makes the impulsive decision to enlist the help of a local stripper named Santa Monica. Summer of 69 is directed by the American actress / filmmaker Jillian Bell, making her feature directorial debut after one other music video previously. The screenplay is co-written by Jillian Bell, Jules Byrne, Liz Nico. Produced by Jeremy Garelick, Will Phelps, Molle DeBartolo, Jillian Bell, Breanna Bell-Singer, Matt Skiena, Adam Goodman, Lucas Carter. This initially premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. Hulu releases Bell’s Summer of 69 comedy streaming on Hulu starting May 9th, 2025 coming soon.

Official Trailer for Doc ‘Sally’ About Pioneering US Astronaut Sally Ride
by Alex Billington
May 2, 2025
Source: YouTube

“If more little girls grew up with an interest in science, like we did, the world would be a better place.” Indeed. National Geographic has revealed an official trailer for a documentary titled Sally, about astronaut Dr. Sally Ride. This premiered to great reviews at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. And it will be out to watch streaming on NatGeo / Disney+ / Hulu starting in June. I highly recommend watching! It’s especially informative and fascinating and inspiring. Sally Ride became the first American woman to blast off into space, but beneath her unflappable composure, she carried a secret… Revealing the romance and sacrifices of their 27 years together, Sally’s life partner, Tam O’Shaughnessy, tells the full story of this complicated and iconic astronaut for the first time. Directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Cristina Costantini. The film also features interviews with tennis champion & close friend to Ride, Billie Jean King; Sally’s sister, Bear Ride; and mother, Carol Joyce Ride, and more of NASA’s class of 1978: Anna Fisher, Kathy Sullivan, John Fabian, Steve Hawley. It’s an excellent doc and I’m glad it’ll be ready to watch it soon.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Cristina Costantini’s doc film Sally, direct from Nat Geo’s YouTube:
“I can’t recall the exact moment that Sally Ride first captured my imagination, but I know that I’ve been obsessed with her story from a very young age. I was drawn to telling the story of a trailblazing woman fighting for respect in a male-dominated world. But above all, I wanted to explore the beautiful, unknown love story between Sally and Tam O’Shaughnessy. Their enduring relationship was kept secret from the public for 27 long years. Our film celebrates the Sally we all knew through her accomplishments and, for the first time, pays homage to the one we never could know.” –Director Cristina Costantini

As the first American woman to travel into space (in 1983), Dr. Sally Ride became a household name. Her groundbreaking achievements were celebrated in the mainstream media, yet much of her personal life remained a mystery. Through incredible archival footage, we watch both Ride’s exhilarating trajectory and also her struggles to be taken seriously as a scientist and astronaut in a time of rampant, unvarnished sexism and homophobia. Very private and reluctant to be seen as anything but a serious colleague by her peers, Sally was not open about her relationships with women; to come out then was to risk everything she’d worked for professionally. Sally is a documentary feature film directed by acclaimed doc filmmaker Cristina Costantini, director of the doc films Science Fair, Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado, and Own the Room previously, and episodes of the TV series “Home” and “Science Fair” recently. Produced by Jon Bardin, Lauren Cioffi, Dan Cogan, and Cristina Costantini. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. NatGeo debuts Costantini’s Sally doc streaming on National Geographic on June 16th, 2025, and also on Disney+ starting on June 17th this summer. Want to watch?

Deadwyler & Greyeyes in ’40 Acres’ Post-Apoc Survival Thriller Trailer
by Alex Billington
May 1, 2025
Source: YouTube

“All that matters now… is how we react.” Magnolia Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for an intense post-apocalyptic survival thriller called 40 Acres. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Canadian filmmaker R.T. Thorne, known for his many music videos previously. It premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival last year and arrives to watch in the US in theaters starting in July this summer. Catch it on the big screen! After a series of plagues and wars leaves society in ruins, the Freemans are surviving — even thriving — on a farm in the middle of nowhere… so long as they repel the occasional raiding party. But what good is surviving the end of the world if it means snuffing out your own humanity? In a post-apocalyptic world with food scarcity, a Black family of Canadian farmers descended from American Civil War migrants defend their homestead against vicious cannibals trying to acquire their resources. The film stars Danielle Deadwyler, Michael Greyeyes, Kataem O’Connor, Milcania Diaz-Rojas, and many others. This looks much more interesting and unsettling than expected, and the reviews quoted in here hint that it really is worth a watch.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for R.T. Thorne’s survival thriller 40 Acres, direct from YouTube:

After a series of plagues and wars leaves society in ruins, the Freemans are surviving — even thriving — on a farm in the middle of nowhere… so long as they repel the occasional raiding party. Former soldier Hailey (Danielle Deadwyler) and her partner Galen (Michael Greyeyes) fled the collapse along with their children, training them to fight (and, yes, kill). But now Hailey’s eldest Emanuel (Kataem O’Connor) is a young man, and when he meets a young woman (Milcania Diaz-Rojas) in the forest beyond the fence, his need for human contact could place the whole family in jeopardy. 40 Acres is directed by Canadian indie filmmaker R.T. Thorne, making his first feature film after directing episodes of the series “Utopia Falls”, “Kung Fu”, “The Porter”, and “The Lake”, plus tons of other music videos as well. The screenplay is by R.T. Thorne & Glenn Taylor; from a story by R.T. Thorne & Lora Campbell. Produced by Jennifer Holness. This initially premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival last year. Magnolia Pics will release Thorne’s 40 Acres film in select US theaters starting July 2nd, 2025 this summer. For more info, visit the film’s official site.

Full Trailer for Action Thriller ‘Diablo’ with Marko Zaror & Scott Adkins
by Alex Billington
May 1, 2025
Source: YouTube

“I’ll fight to the death for her!” Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for an action movie called Diablo, the latest movie made by Chilean action movie director Ernesto Dìaz Espinoza (also of Mirageman, Kiltro, Mandrill, Redeemer). Unfortunately this is not connected in any way to the iconic Diablo video game series from Blizzard. The title is simply a reference to the Spanish word “diablo” which just translates to devil, of course. In this action thriller film, Scott Adkins stars as Kris Chaney, a recently released ex-convict who embarks on a perilous mission. He kidnaps Elisa, daughter of Vicente, a powerful gangster, which puts them in danger from “El Corvo”, a psychopathic killer seeking revenge against Vicente’s family. Chilean martial artist / action star Marko Zaror also co-stars in this as “El Corvo,” the bad guy. The cast includes Alanna De La Rossa, Diana Hoyos, Lucho Velasco, and Juan Camilo Castillo. This will be out to watch on VOD in June this summer if anyone wants to find out of they conquer this “Diablo” or not. It actually looks like it has some intense action – I’ve seen Espionza’s early action films and they’re pretty good. Fire this up.
Here’s the first official trailer for Ernesto Dìaz Espinoza’s action movie Diablo, direct from YouTube:

After his release from prison, one man makes it his mission to right a terrible wrong by revealing a secret that might end up taking his life. Scott Adkins stars as Kris Chaney, a warrior who seizes the daughter of a Colombian gangster to fulfill a noble promise to the young girl’s mother. When her father enlists both the criminal underworld and the terrifying psychotic killer El Corvo (Marko Zaror) to exact his revenge, Kris will need to draw upon everything he has ever learned – in and out of lockup – to stay alive and keep his word to her mother. Diablo is directed by the Chilean action filmmaker Ernesto Dìaz Espinoza, director of the fun action movies Mirageman, Kiltro, Mandrill, Redeemer, Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman, Santiago Violenta, as well as The Fist of the Condor previously. The screenplay is written by Mat Sansom; from a story by Mat Sansom, Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror, Ernesto Díaz Espinoza. Produced by Craig Baumgarten, Scott Adkins, Clay Epstein, Jason Gurvitz, Alvaro Gutierrez. Lionsgate will debut Espinoza’s Diablo movie in select US theaters + on VOD starting June 13th, 2025 this summer. Who wants to watch?
