Funny Trailer for ‘The Threesome’ Starring Zoey Deutch & Ruby Cruz

“I’m not doing this is there’s a side-piece baby momma, absolutely not!” Vertical has revealed the official trailer for The Threesome, a funny sex comedy from filmmaker Chad Hartigan (Morris from America, Little Fish). This first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, with stops at many other fests, and it opens in theaters this September. A young man’s perennial crush leads him into an unexpected threesome – he thinks it’s his ultimate fantasy come true. (Obviously…) When the fantasy ends, all three are left with sobering real-world consequences and they must take responsibility for their actions. An impulsive night leads to a wild threesome between Olivia, Connor, and Jenny, leaving both women facing unexpected surprises, thrusting all three right into the raw and beautifully messy chaos of adulthood. The trailer reveals what’s really going on in here – it’s not that big of a surprise. Starring Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, and Ruby Cruz as the trio, along with Jaboukie Young-White, Josh Segarra, Robert Longstreet, Arden Myrin, and Kristin Slaysman. There are a bunch of actually hilarious jokes and one-liners in this trailer – I laughed way more than I was expecting. So this might actually be a really good modern rom-com?

Here’s the official trailer for Chad Hartigan’s comedy film The Threesome, from Veritfcal’s YouTube:

One fateful night, the stars seemingly align for Connor (Jonah Hauer-King) — a kind and unassuming young man — as his long-time crush — the electric & irreverent Olivia (Zoey Deutch) — steers them into a threesome with a sweet and alluring stranger (Ruby Cruz). The encounter sparks a relationship between Connor and Olivia and their love grows quickly, all the way toward planning a life together. But their happy romance is soon demolished when Jenny reappears in their lives, thrusting all three into a difficult and messy journey towards true accountability & adulthood. The Threesome is directed by the acclaimed Cyprus-born, Irish-American filmmaker Chad Hartigan, director of the films Luke and Brie Are on a First Date, This Is Martin Bonner, Morris from America, and Little Fish previously, as well as a few shorts and a doc film.. The screenplay is written by Ethan Ogilby. Produced by Tim White, Trevor White, Vince Jolivette, Steve Shapiro. This initially premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. Vertical will debut Hartigan’s The Threesome film in select US theaters starting September 5th, 2025 coming up. Who’s in?

“I don’t want you to wonder for the rest of your about what could’ve happened…” Netflix has debuted the full official trailer for Long Story Short, the brand new animated series created by the same mind behind BoJack Horseman, named Raphael Bob-Waksberg. It will begin streaming on Netflix starting in August later this summer. A dysfunctional American Jewish family’s (the Schwoopers) shared history, inside jokes, and old wounds are explored in this adult animated comedy which spans multiple years of time. “From the creator of BoJack Horseman, a comedy for anyone who has ever loved or hated their family.” Ha. Featuring the voices of Lisa Edelstein (as Naomi Schwartz), Paul Reiser (as Elliott Cooper), Ben Feldman (as Avi Schwooper), Abbi Jacobson (as Shira Schwooper), Max Greenfield (as Yoshi Schwooper), Angelique Cabral (as just Jen), Nicole Byer (as Kendra Hooper), Dave Franco (as Danny Wegbreit), Michaela Dietz (as Hannah Schwooper). This looks like good fun! This trailer has some solid jokes, I’m intrigued to see how the family evolves over time, and while the animation is rough it has a more authentic feel this way.

Trailer for ‘American Sweatshop’ Thriller About a Content Moderator

“Sometimes the only way to stop a bad thing is with another bad thing.” Brainstorm Media has unveiled the official trailer for an indie film titled American Sweatshop, a modern thriller about social media and how harmful it actually is. A social media moderator is tasked with purging the most offensive content from the internet. When she sees a video that appears to show a crime, she’s lured into a dangerous world as she obsessively looks to hold them accountable. This is definitely commentary about Facebook, which also used to have a human moderator team, showing how they’re so afraid of ever doing anything to stop actual crime and danger. A look at the toll of social media through the eyes of Daisy Moriarty. This is also similar to the Canadian thriller Red Rooms from last year. The film stars Lili Reinhart, Daniela Melchior, Jeremy Ang Jones, Josh Whitehouse, Tim Plester, Christiane Paul,, and Joel Fry. After premiering at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier in the year, it’s set to open in limited theaters this September. This looks intense! But also an important topic in this day & age. “Remember: we’re not ‘censors’, we are ‘moderators.'”

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Uta Briesewitz’s film American Sweatshop, from YouTube:

“Does the truth exist if no one believes it?” Unfortunately, a good question these days… Hulu has debuted the official trailer for their next true crime series out this summer titled The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. This is a fictional cinematic version of the entire story of American Amanda Knox, who was wrongly imprisoned for murder in Italy. Everyone knows her story as it was big in the media for many years – after being acquitted, Knox also wrote her memoir titled “Waiting to Be Heard” then Netflix released a doc about her called simply Amanda Knox. “Inspired by the story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.” Grace Van Patten stars in this series created by “This Is Us” writer KJ Steinberg. The cast also features Sharon Horgan, John Hoogenakker, Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico, & Roberta Mattei. It’s already set for a streaming debut in August, with new episodes out each week. This actually looks pretty good – a proper retelling of her story with all the bells and whistles, going far beyond just the tragic murder.

Full US Trailer for ‘Happyend’ Film – Japanese Teens vs Surveillance

“Our generation is hopeless…. What are you laughing about?” Film Movement has debuted the official US trailer for an indie film from Japan titled Happyend, made by filmmaker Neo Sora as his first narrative feature. This premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival last year, and we posted an early teaser before its debut at NYFF as well. Ready for release in theaters this fall – one year after its premiere. Set in near-future Tokyo, the threat of a catastrophic earthquake looms. Two friends prank their principal before graduation, leading to dystopian school surveillance installation, which eventually leads to a rift between the two high school teenagers. Happyend “amplifies the sociopolitical dynamics already present in Japan today” with a sharp cinematic story about a group of friends. Another fascinating surveillance thriller, with commentary on contemporary society, similar to Stranger Eyes. The cast features Hayato Kurihara, Yukito Hidaka, Yuta Hayashi, Shina Peng, ARAZI, Kilala Inori, PUSHIM, & Makiko Watanabe. The film focuses mainly on these two friends dealing with their new surveillance world that’s taking over their entire lives. I’m a fan of this one. I listed it as one of the Best of the Fest at Venice last year – smart, clever, & intriguing.

Via Venice: “Best friends Yuta and Kou are on the brink of graduating from high school in a near-future Tokyo where the threat of a catastrophic earthquake casts a shadow over daily life. One night, they play a prank on their principal with unexpected consequences, leading to the installation of a surveillance system in the school. As the oppressive security measures take hold and the national political situation darkens, Kou grows increasingly frustrated with the world, while Yuta remains seemingly unaware. Kou finds an empathetic ear in a passionate student activist, and his political awareness begins to blossom. Believing that Yuta would never understand his newfound interests, Kou starts to distance himself from his friend. For the first time in their lifelong friendship, the two are compelled to confront differences that they had never expressed before.Happyend is written and directed by Japanese-American artist / filmmaker Neo Sora, director of the docs Ainu Neno an Ainu and Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus, plus other Sakamoto short films & music videos, making his first narrative feature. It’s produced by Zakkubalan (Albert Tholen, Aiko Masubuchi), Cineric Creative (Eric Nyari), Cinema Inutile (Alex C. Lo), Giraffe Pictures (Anthony Chen). It first premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, and it also played at TIFF and NYFF, then opened in Japan last fall.
