Warner Bros has launched the first official trailer for the action sequel Mortal Kombat II (MK2), based on the popular video game series. This is a follow-up to the most recent live-action Mortal Kombat movie in 2021, bringing back most of the cast for another martial arts showdown. “You don’t know what you’re doing. There’s no way out…” Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a crime thriller titled Night Always Comes, out on Netflix globally this August. Not to be confused with the other films titled The Wolves Always Come at Night or The Night Comes for Us. Based on the best-selling novel by Willy Vlautin, Night Always Comes is directed by Benjamin Caron (Sharper) and is set in Portland, OR. Risking everything to secure a future for herself and her brother, Lynette sets out on a dangerous odyssey, confronting her own dark past while racing through one propulsive night. Starring Vanessa Kirby, Night Always Comes follows Lynette, a woman who risks everything to secure the house that represents a future for her family. On a dangerous odyssey through a single night to find $25,000, Lynette is forced to deal with her troubles in order to finally break free… The cast features Jennifer Jason Leigh, Zack Gottsagen, Stephan James, Randall Park, Julia Fox, Michael Kelly, and Eli Roth. This looks like it gets proper crazy! But I’m down to watch Kirby get super angry fighting all these assholes around Portland. Bring it on.

“One Night. One Decision. Everything Changes.” Inaugural Entertainment + Relativity Media have unveiled an official trailer for a film titled The Knife, a home invasion horror thriller marking the feature directorial debut of actor Nnamdi Asomugha. Asomugha is the former All-Pro NFL defensive back from Los Angeles who decided to get into acting (in Crown Heights, Sylvie’s Love) after finishing football. Now he’s directing his first film, which he co-wrote with indie filmmaker Mark Duplass. After a home invasion, a young family is pushed to their breaking point as a relentless detective unearths secrets they’ve fought to keep buried. This premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival last year and it opens in theaters nationwide this August. Starring Nnamdi Asomugha, Academy Award winner Melissa Leo, Aja Naomi King, Manny Jacinto, Amari Price, and Aiden Price. From this trailer it seems like another generic story about a rattled family.

Official Trailer for ‘A Little Prayer’ with David Strathairn & Jane Levy

“Everybody needs to just grow up, if you ask me.” Yep sounds about right. Music Box Films has debuted an official trailer for a smart little indie film finally releasing this year. A Little Prayer first premiered back at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and earned plenty of good reviews from critics who saw it there (93% on RT). It is finally getting a chance to shine in theaters – opening in locations starting August 29th. When a proud family man begins to suspect that his son is having an affair, he spirals into a relationship minefield trying to protect his daughter-in-law Tammy and attempt to understand his son. It’s “a heart-tugging drama about finding kindred spirits in unexpected places, A Little Prayer is a sensitive and searching portrait of an American family.” From writer / director Angus MacLachlan. Starring David Strathairn as Bill, with Jane Levy, Will Pullen, Celia Weston, Dascha Polanco, and Anna Camp. The reviews state it’s “filled with rich performances, complex characters, optimism, heartwarming revelations, and wisdom.” This is a rather beautiful trailer that makes it look like an indie gem absolutely worth watching whenever it opens near you.

Bill (David Strathairn) is a pillar of his Southern community: a business owner, a veteran, and the proud patriarch of an unruly but loving family. His daughter Patti (Anna Camp) has returned home after the collapse of her marriage, while his son David (Will Pullen) struggles to stay afloat. He has brought David into the family business, but harbors doubts about his discipline and commitment. Bill gravitates towards Tammy (Jane Levy), his daughter-in-law & only other person in his rambunctious household who values contemplation and repose. When Bill begins to suspect that David may be straying from his marital vows with a coworker (Dascha Polanco), he must confront the perplexing inscrutability of his son’s choices and their consequences for the rest of the family. A Little Prayer is both written and directed by American indie filmmaker Angus MacLachlan, director of the films Goodbye to All That, Abundant Acreage Available, and also a writer on Junebug and Stone. Produced by Max A. Butler, Lauren Vilchik, Angus MacLachlan. It first premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival a few years ago. New Trailer for 15th Anniversary Re-Release of ‘Black Swan’ in IMAX

“What happened to my sweet girl?” “She’s gone!” Searchlight Pictures has debuted a brand new trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s Oscar-winning thriller Black Swan, which originally opened in 2010. It is celebrating its 15th Anniversary this year, so they’re giving it a quick re-release with this two-nights-only plan. The big news about this re-release is that its getting an update. The IMAX release will be digitally re-mastered into the image & sound quality of The IMAX Experience. It will also feature a new, immersive IMAX 5.0 sound mix. Black Swan is Aronofsky’s thriller about the relationship between a veteran ballet dancer and a rival who’s looking to win the same role in the new production of Swan Lake. Starring Natalie Portman & Mila Kunis, with Winona Ryder, Vincent Cassel, and Barbara Hershey. The superb film (my 2010 review) was nominated for five Academy Awards, but only won one for Natalie Portman as Best Actress (The King’s Speech took home Best Picture instead). The score by Clint Mansell is exceptional, and cinematography by Matty Libatique also earned an Oscar nom. Tickets are now on sale at 250 IMAX theatres nationwide for showings around late August. Don’t miss a chance to revisit this haunting masterpiece on the biggest screen.

And here’s a look at the original 2010 trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s film Black Swan, also via YouTube:

Black Swan Poster

Experience it in IMAX! A psychological thriller set in the world of New York City ballet, Black Swan stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a featured ballet dancer who finds herself roped into a battle of competitive intrigue with a new rival at the dance company (Mila Kunis). Black Swan is directed by award-winning American filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, his fifth feature film at the time after directing Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, and The Wrestler; before going on to make Noah (in 2014) after. The screenplay is written by Andrés Heinz, with Mark Heyman and John J. McLaughlin; based on a story by Andrés Heinz. Produced by Scott Franklin, Mike Medavoy, Arnold W. Messer, and Brian Oliver. This first premiered at the 2010 Telluride & Toronto Film Festivals (read my original review). It opened in theaters December 2010 and earned a grand total of 5 Oscar nominations with Natalie Portman winning for Best Actress. Searchlight Pictures will re-release Aronofsky’s Black Swan film in select theaters, including in IMAX, for two nights only on August 21st & 24th, 2025 coming up soon.
