Alec Guinness’ ‘The Man in the White Suit’ 4K Restoration New Trailer
by Alex Billington
July 21, 2025
Source: YouTube

“You can’t buy me! I don’t work here!” Studiocanal UK has revealed a brand new trailer for a 4K restoration version of the 1951 comedy classic The Man in the White Suit, directed by British filmmaker Alexander Mackendrick. (Though it didn’t hit US theaters until 1952.) Sounds like it’s just as relevant today as it was 74 years ago! Sidney Stratton, laboratory dishwasher at a textile mill, is secretly at work on the invention of a new fabric that will never get dirty and never wear out. But the powers that rule us won’t let it get out. An altruistic chemist invents a fabric which resists wear and stain as a boon to humanity, but big business and labor realize it must be suppressed for economic reasons. (Of course…) The film followed a common Ealing Studios theme of the “common man” against the Establishment. In this instance the hero falls foul of both trade unions and the wealthy mill owners who attempt to suppress his invention. Starring Alec Guinness, Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker, Michael Gough, Ernest Thesiger, Vida Hope, Howard Marion-Crawford, & Henry Mollison. The new 4K re-release this year is only going to Blu-ray, not theaters, but I hope some cinemas will put it on the big screen. This looks like such a fun comedy – time to give it a watch.
Here’s the new 4K trailer for Alexander Mackendrick’s film The Man in the White Suit, via YouTube:
And here’s another classic trailer for Mackendrick’s film The Man in the White Suit, also via YouTube:

“The classic Ealing comedy – spotlessly restored.” Sidney Stratton (Alec Guinness), laboratory dishwasher at a textile mill, is secretly at work on the invention of a new fabric that will never get dirty and never wear out. After many vicissitudes, the invention succeeds and it is brought to the notice of his employer, who gives him money and facilities to develop it. When the news of Stratton’s invention breaks, however, industry is threatened with chaos. The trade unions and the mill owners find themselves in an artificial alliance, both determined the fabric must never go on the market. The Man in the White Suit is directed by the British filmmaker Alexander Mackendrick, his second feature film at the time after making Whisky Galore! (1949) and before Crash of Silence (1952). The screenplay is written by Roger MacDougall & John Dighton & Alexander Mackendrick; based on the play by Roger MacDougall. Produced by Michael Balcon. This originally premiered at the 1951 Edinburgh Film Festival just before opening in the UK; it arrived in US theaters in early 1952. Studiocanal will re-release The Man in the White Suit in 4K UHD – available on Blu-ray as a “stunning new collector’s edition” starting September 15th, 2025 this fall. Any fans of this one?

Full Trailer for Kids Horror Film ‘Marshmallow’ Set at Summer Camp
by Alex Billington
July 21, 2025
Source: YouTube

“It’s the doctor! He’s real!” Quiver Distr. recently released this indie horror film and it’s already available to watch. Marshmallow is a horror film “for kids” about kids at summer camp encountering a scary doctor, made by the director / VFX artist Daniel DelPurgatorio as his first feature film. 12-year-old Morgan Kim is terrified of summer camp—especially the spooky campfire stories. But when a masked “doctor” figure from legend comes to life, he must conquer his fears, protect his friends, and uncover Camp Almar’s dark secret before it’s too late. This group of young campers will uncover a profound secret that questions their very existence. Starring Kue Lawrence as Morgan, with Giorgia Whigham, Corbin Bernsen, Paul Soter, Pierson Fode, and a bunch of other camp kids. I’m glad someone is still trying to make horror movies that younger viewers can watch. The villain in this isn’t the scariest thing out there, but that’s obviously because this is trying to introduce kids to horror without all the gory stuff. Nice poster paying homage to The Thing.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Daniel DelPurgatorio’s horror Marshmallow, from YouTube:

12-year-old Morgan Kim (Kue Lawrence) is timid, anxious, and terrified of everything-especially summer camp. But when a chilling campfire story comes to life and a legendary masked figure emerges from the shadows, fear is no longer an option. To survive, Morgan must face his worst nightmares, protect his new friends, and uncover the dark secret haunting Camp Almar before it’s too late. Marshmallow is an indie horror film directed by American VFX supervisor / filmmaker Daniel DelPurgatorio, making his feature directorial debut after many other shorts previously, including the animated “Tales of the Black Freighter” segment in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. The screenplay is written by Andy Greskoviak. Produced by Warner Davis & Todd M. Friedman. This hasn’t premiered at any film fests or elsewhere, as far as we know. Quiver Distr. has already debuted DelPurgatorio’s Marshmallow – it’s available to watch now on VOD. Any good?

Source: YouTube
“We have to get out of here…” Good luck. Saban Films has revealed an official US trailer for an indie horror titled River of Blood, make by UK genre filmmaker Howard J. Ford. This crazy brutal cannibal horror is being dumped on VOD in the summer – starting in August next month. Four kayakers take the wrong river into hell. Will they escape? A jungle kayak adventure descends into terror when a group of friends becomes the target of a merciless, bloodthirsty tribe of cannibals. This stars Joseph Millson, Louis James, Ella Starbuck, Sarah Alexandra Marks, and David Wayman. More horror filmmakers keep trying to make cannibal horror movies, but none of them will ever live up to the intensity of Apocalypto or brutality of The Green Inferno. This looks like another generic cannibal tribe thriller without much of anything new to offer.

by Alex Billington
July 18, 2025
Source: YouTube

“What’s it like being famous?” Trafalgar Releasing and AMC have revealed the first teaser trailer for a new documentary film titled Stans, produced by and inspired by Eminem and his life as a celebrity. The film is an examination of the modern superfandom culture, built around the term to “stan” someone and the many massive “stans” there are out there. The short teaser comes direct from Eminem’s YT page, where he states that it will be released in theaeters on August 7th this summer. “This one’s for the Stans, by the Stans! See the real stories behind the fandom – Stans in theatres worldwide August 7th for one weekend only.” The film is inspired by Eminem’s famous song “Stan” – from 25 years ago – about a crazy obsessed fan. The doc also reveals one superfan’s intensely personal connection to rapper Eminem and the artist’s profound influence, exploring fandom’s power to forge identity and community. Featuring a brand new interview with Eminem. Not sure if it’ll touch on the darker side of fandom, hopefully they cover all aspects of it. Have a look below.
Here’s the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Steven Leckart’s documentary Stans, direct from YouTube:

Released in 2000, Eminem’s song “Stan” — about an obsessive, unstable fan — remains iconic. So iconic the term stan was officially to the dictionary in 2017. In the song, the titular character handwrites a series of emotional letters to Eminem, repeating the line: “I’m just like you.” That refrain serves as the guiding light for this unconventional and fully authorized feature, which follows a highly curated cast of real-life stans whose deep personal connections to Eminem mirror some of the themes found throughout his lyrics. More than just an exploration of fandom, the film examines the complicated relationship between one of the world’s most private artists & his massive public persona. Through stylized recreations, rare archival footage, intimate interviews, and an exclusive original interview with Eminem himself, it offers a raw, loud, and revealing journey across his music career, and the passionate fanbase that has grown with him.
Stans is a documentary directed by American producer / filmmaker Steven Leckart, director of episodes of “Dogs” and “Challenger: The Final Flight” doc series previously, plus a producer on many other doc series including “Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy” and “Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers”. Produced by Tony DiSanto, Antoine Fuqua, Stuart Parr, Paul Rosenberg, and Eminem. Executive produced by Steven Leckart and Michael Maniaci. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals, as far as we know. Trafalgar Releasing debuts Leckart’s Stans doc in theaters worldwide starting August 7th, 2025. For info + tickets visit the film’s site.

Olivier Assayas & Vincent Macaigne Comedy ‘Suspended Time’ Trailer
by Alex Billington
July 18, 2025
Source: YouTube

“There’s so much pressure to be a part of the world.” Music Box Films has revealed the official trailer for an indie film titled Suspended Time, the latest feature film by acclaimed French filmmaker Olivier Assayas (after his recent work on Wasp Network and the new “Irma Vep” series). This premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival last year and got pretty bad reviews – it’s a script from the pandemic and is set during Covid-19 lockdowns, and no good film came out of that time. During spring in 2020, two married couples quarantine together in a country house in the provincial Chevreuse Valley, leading to rising tensions and revelations about their relationships. A “scabrous French comedy from master filmmaker” Olivier Assayas, Suspended Time is a sharply personal and fiercely neurotic ode to the eternal expanse of memory and the allure of life beyond our personal screens. With Vincent Macaigne, Micha Lescot, Nine d’Urso, Nora Hamzawi, Maud Wyler, Dominique Reymond, and Magdalena Lafont. Unless you’re a big Olivier Assayas fan, or someone who must watch more French films, this doesn’t really seem like it’s going to be worth the time.
Here’s the official US trailer (+ poster) for Olivier Assayas’ film Suspended Time, from YouTube:

As society recedes in 2020, film director Paul Berger (Vincent Macaigne) returns to his childhood home in the provincial Chevreuse Valley. Still processing the legacy of his parents and feeling out the uncertain shape of the world to come, Paul hunkers down with his doc filmmaker girlfriend Carole (Nora Hamzawi), his music journalist brother Etienne (Micha Lescot), and Etienne’s new girlfriend Morgan (Nine d’Urso). Squabbling over the minutiae of health protocols & morality of a hermetic lifestyle mediated by ubiquitous online shopping, the makeshift household finds new ways to lacerate familiar wounds. Yet he also finds a surprising refuge in the compulsory quietude of pandemic life, an opportunity to reconnect with the books and art and enchanted forests of his youth. Suspended Time, also known as Hors du temps in French, is written and directed by acclaimed French filmmaker Olivier Assayas, director of the films Winter’s Child, Paris Awakens, Cold Water, Demonlover, Clean, Boarding Gate, Summer Hours, Something in the Air, Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper, Non-Fiction, Wasp Network, and new “Irma Vep” series recently. Produced by Olivier Delbosc & Olivier Assayas. This initially premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival last year. Music Box Films will open Assayas’ Suspended Time film in select US theaters on August 15th, 2025.
