Watch: ‘We’re Kinda Different’ Funny 3-Minute Musical Cartoon Short

“We’re kinda different… I bet you can’t guess how!” Can you guess how this little guy is different? There’s just something that seems a little off about him… But I can’t tell what it is! He looks pretty normal to me. Enjoy this especially funny animated short film called We’re Kinda Different, created and directed by the animation filmmaker Ben Meinhardt based up in BC, Canada. He’s been working in animation for two decades so far, creating cartoons and more. The characters in this film are created by his son, who drew this picture of Mr. Butt Face (or is it Ms.?) and a new character was born. Ben took this one-of-a-kind creation and turned it into a 3-minute cartoon musical which is now online for everyone to enjoy. It played at a few film festivals earlier this year, including at the Ottawa Animation Festival & Waco Film Festival in TX, and now it’s on YT and Vimeo. As much fun as this character is, it’s actually a wholesome little film about not caring about differences and appreciating exactly who you are & whatever makes you so unique. View below.

We're Kinda Different Short Film

Thanks to Vimeo Staff Picks for the tip on this short. Here’s the very brief intro via Vimeo: “Blessed be the cracked, for they let in the light.” –Someone Special. The song kind of explains what this is really about: “I have a Butt right beneath my face! I bet it’s obvious now…” Is it obvious, though? We’re Kinda Different is an animated short film written and directed and animated by filmmaker Ben Meinhardt based in British Columbia, Canada – you can view more of his work on his Vimeo page or visit his official website or follow him on YT. “Ben has worked in animation for over 20 years in the animation industry (how is this possible?) His independent short films have been screened around the world in multiple festivals such as Annecy and SXSW.” The characters (and trumpet) are created by Ben’s son. Produced entirely on his own. For more info on the film, visit Ben’s site or head to Vimeo. To enjoy more short films, click here. Aren’t we all different?

First Look Trailer for ‘El Tesoro de Barracuda’ Spanish Animated Film

“If you can read these pages, it means you are looking for my treasure.” Filmax in Spain has revealed the first teaser trailer for a new animated adventure film titled El Tesoro de Barracuda, or The Treasure of Barracuda in English, based on the book series of the same name. This thrilling new pirate adventure has all the usual ingredients: secret maps, chases, naval battles, and unforgettable characters. On board the dreaded ship The Southern Cross, she’s the only hope for an illiterate crew to find the legendary treasure of Phineas Krane. Together with Captain Barracuda & John La Ballena, protector of Sparks, they will form an unforgettable trio. The big twist: the pirates can’t read. But Sparks will teach them! Of course. No voice cast is listed yet. From director Adrià García, the Spanish production is animated by Hampa Animation Studio in Valencia, produced by Inicia Films and Belvision. This is designed for kids, to teach them about the joys of reading, but it still looks like fun anyway. And this colorful 2D animation style is lovely. Check it out below.

El Tesoro de Barracuda, which translates to The Treasure of Barracuda in English, is directed by Spanish animation filmmaker Adrià García, director of the film Nocturna and My Family and the Wolf previously. The screenplay is written by Amèlia Mora, adapted from the Spanish children’s book of the same name written by Llanos Campos. Produced by Valérie Delpierre. Made by Inicia Films & Hampa Studio. Michael Strassner & Liz Larsen in ‘The Baltimorons’ Comedy Trailer

“Where are we going with this, kid?” “I have no idea… I just really like you.” Awww, such a cutie. IFC Films has debuted the official trailer for an indie comedy underrated fave called The Baltimorons, directed by Jay Duplass (of the Duplass Brothers), and co-written by actor / comedian Michael Strassner. This first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, and also just played at the Nantucket, Munich, and Karlovy Vary Film Festivals as well. After cracking a tooth on Christmas Eve in chilly Baltimore, newly sober improv comedian Cliff embarks on an adventure through Baltimore with Didi, his emergency dentist. The film has kooky, offbeat humor and strangely alluring vibes similar to Harold & Maude, but also with heaps of charm thanks to the connection between Cliff and Didi. They’re so fun together. The Baltimorons stars Michael Strassner, Liz Larsen, and Olivia Luccardi, with Rob Phoenix as an improv comedian. I had a chance to see this recently at KVIFF and it’s quite good – a surprisingly amusing and engaging little film about a guy meeting someone special while also getting into all kinds of trouble. This is worth a watch.

On Christmas Eve, Cliff (starring Michael Strassner who also co-wrote the script), a newly sober improv comedian, cracks a tooth and lands in the emergency care of Didi (Liz Larsen), an older no-nonsense dentist. What begins as a routine check-up sparks an unpredictable evening of misadventures. Together, Cliff and Didi fight to overcome being shut out by their families, face their biggest fears, and discover their own surprising and tender connection. The Baltimorons is directed by the acclaimed American producer / writer / filmmaker Jay Duplass (of the Duplass Brothers), director on the films The Puffy Chair, Baghead, Cyrus, Jeff Who Lives at Home, and The Do-Deca-Pentathlon previously, plus some episodes of the series “Togetherness”, “Search Party”, and “Somebody Somewhere” most recently. The screenplay is co-written by Jay Duplass and Michael Strassner. Produced by David Bonnett, Drew Langer, and Michael Strassner. This initially premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. IFC Films will debut The Baltimorons film in select US theaters starting September 5th, 2025 coming soon. Who wants to watch? Look funny?

Liam Neeson & Pamela Anderson in ‘The Naked Gun’ Funny Featurette

“It’s really wild. It’s just one laugh after another.” Paramount has unveiled a series of promo featurettes for the upcoming comedy reboot The Naked Gun, directed by the comedy mastermind Akiva Schaffer. Their opener “Absurdist comedy is back! A Naked Gun for the modern age — only in theatres August 1st.” Watch the full trailer here. Liam Neeson stars in this as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., son of the original Frank Drebin, played by comedy maestro Leslie Nielsen. Joining the case are Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, & Danny Huston. The three original Naked Gun movies are some of the funniest ever made – for real. So much absurdly dumb humor. Thankfully this also looks hilarious! Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world! This promo shows some behind-the-scenes but mainly has the cast talking about how much fun this was to make and how they went back to old school comedy to make this just as funny as the before.

Here’s the “First Look” promo featurettes for Akiva Schaffer’s comedy The Naked Gun, from YouTube:
