Ben Krieger Stars in Inspiring Golfer Drama ‘The Short Game’ Trailer
by Alex Billington

“You’ve been given a gift, and it’s up to you on how you’re going to use it.” Abramorama has unveiled an official trailer for a film titled The Short Game, a young golfer drama about family. The feature directorial debut of filmmaker Frank Sanza, this is getting released in limited theaters at the end of July this summer. Ben Krieger stars as Jeremy, a talented golfer, who initially dismisses his autistic brother Ethan’s golfing abilities. Faced with the choice between a scholarship and his relationship with Ethan, Jeremy chooses his brother… learning life lessons. A teenage golf prodigy struggling with his game has to care for his autistic brother, who unexpectedly helps him rediscover his confidence—and what truly matters in life. Along with Ben Krieger, the cast includes Mackenzie Astin, Katherine Cunningham, Glenn Morshower, Tyler Lofton, Emma Parks, Adyn Alexander, Brandon Potter, and introducing Owen Himfar as Ethan. There was also a doc in 2013 titled The Short Game about young golfers. This seems like the cheesy opposite to Happy Gilmore 2, more about the nice side of golf and what’s possible when we put family above all else.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Frank Sanza’s film The Short Game, direct from YouTube:

Jeremy Avery is vying for a college golf scholarship awarded to the winner of the State Championship, but his preparation and game are affected by family pressures related to his mother’s recovery from cancer and having to take care of his younger autistic brother Ethan. These challenges, along with the burden of carrying his team to State against an opponent who will do anything to win, force Jeremy to reconsider his priorities and see his brother’s savant-like gifts, which if embraced can create an unstoppable pair. On the brink of his greatest victory, Jeremy is forced to make a life-altering decision between finally realizing his own personal dreams or standing by his brother. The Short Game is directed by first-time filmmaker Frank Sanza, a former stunt coordinator making his feature directorial debut with this. The screenplay is by Frank Sanza, Larry Boatright, E. Joren Christensen, and Florrie Laurence & David Parks. It’s produced by David Parks. This initially premiered at various film festivals over the last year. Abramorama will debut Sanza’s The Short Game in select US theaters starting July 25th, 2025 this summer. Anyone want to watch?

“They’re willful creatures. You either gonna break them, or they’re gonna break you.” Briarcliff Ent. has revealed the first look teaser trailer for the film titled Sovereign, an American thriller marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Christian Swegal. It just premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this month, and will be out to watch in July in just a few more weeks. Inspired by true events, Sovereign is a tense and provocative true crime thriller about a father and his teenage son — Jerry and Joseph Kane — who follow the “Sovereign Citizen” belief system, a deeply anti-establishment worldview rooted in distrust of government authority. Their journey brings them into conflict with Police Chief Jim Bouchart, setting off a tragic chain of events that forces a reckoning with power, principle, and the limits of freedom. Starring Nick Offerman, Jacob Tremblay, Dennis Quaid, Martha Plimpton, Thomas Mann, and Nancy Travis. Reviews from Tribeca say the film is “emotionally gripping & strikingly captured”, a tense look at these kind of American extremists. I definitely do want to see more from this film. Stay tuned for the main trailer soon.
Here’s the first look teaser trailer (+ poster) for Christian Swegal’s film Sovereign, direct from YouTube:

Inspired by true events, this gripping thriller follows Jerry Kane (Nick Offerman), an out-of-work roofer and struggling single father who desperately tries to provide for his home-schooled 15-year-old son, Joe (Jacob Tremblay). Searching for control in an unforgiving world, Jerry embraces the sovereign citizen movement, indoctrinating Joe into believing that laws are mere illusions and freedom must be seized by force. As they travel around the country selling “debt relief seminars” to desperate homeowners, Jerry’s ideology becomes increasingly extreme and his grip on reality deteriorates. Meanwhile, Joe quietly begins to question his father’s worldview, dreaming of a normal life beyond their constant travels. Sovereign is written and directed by newcomer filmmaker Christian Swegal, making his feature directorial debut after a few other short films; he also wrote the screenplay for Proud Mary. It’s produced by Nick Moceri. This just premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in NYC earlier this month. Briarcliff Ent. will debut Swegal’s Sovereign film in select US theaters + on VOD starting July 11th, 2025 this summer. So who’s interested?

New Trailer for Post-Apocalyptic Thriller ‘Woken’ with Erin Kellyman
by Alex Billington
June 20, 2025
Source: YouTube

“Oh, Anna… you are our greatest success.” Dark Sky Films has revealed the official trailer for a mystery thriller called Woken, an Irish production that’s the feature directorial debut of director Alan Friel. This is another film that originally premiered a few years ago – back at the 2023 Trieste Science+Fiction Festival, and 2024 Dublin Film Festival – finally getting released this year. A woman who wakes up from an accident with no memory of who she is, and the realisation that the human race is close to extinction. Oh wait, okay? What is really going on? The film stars Erin Kellyman as Anna, with Maxine Peake, Ivanno Jeremiah, Corrado Invernizzi, and Peter McDonald. Anna is being nursed back to health by Helen and Peter on a remote island in the North Sea after waking up with no memory, pregnant, and in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. This looks a bit like a more horror take on Children of Men, obviously something is going on with his baby being the only one that’s still growing. This looks intriguing enough, might end up worth watching.
Here’s the main official trailer (+ two posters) for Alan Friel’s horror film Woken, direct from YouTube:

“Open your eyes. Fear the future.” In a post-apocalyptic world, this isle provides a safe haven from a pandemic that has decimated earth. Anna (Erin Kellyman) wakes up pregnant and unable to remember who her husband is. Nor does Anna recognize Helen and Peter who are supposedly helping her get her health back. Disbelief in what she is being told leads to a horrible revelation and Anna having to contend with existential issues brought on by man’s destruction of the planet. Woken is directed by the Irish genre filmmaker Alan Friel, making his feature directorial debut after a few other short films & commercials previously. The screenplay is from Alan Friel and Rebecca Pollock. It’s produced by Deirdre Levins, Brendan McCarthy, John McDonnell. With support from the Italian Ministry of Culture. This initially premiered at the 2023 Trieste Science+Fiction Festival a few years ago. Dark Sky Films will debut Friel’s Woken horror thriller in select US theaters + on VOD starting July 18th, 2025 this summer. Look good? Who’s curious?

Pregnancy Horror Thriller ‘Push’ Trailer with Alicia Sanz & Raúl Castillo
by Alex Billington
June 20, 2025
Source: YouTube

“We’re having a rough day, huh?” Shudder has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled Push, the third horror feature made by filmmakers David Charbonier & Justin Powell. This premiered at the 2024 Sitges Film Festival last year, then also played at the Cinequest Film Festival where it won the Best Horror Feature award. Shudder will be streaming this dark horror film on their channel starting in July coming up this summer. Starring Alicia Sanz and Raúl Castillo, the home invasion film follows Natalie Flores (Sanz), a pregnant realtor who is attacked by a sadistic killer (Castillo) at her open house, sending her into premature labor. Up against a physiological ticking clock, Natalie must find a way to escape before she gives birth. Aside from Sanz and Castillo, the cast also includes David Alexander Flinn. I already saw this in Sitges last year and was not a fan – there’s nothing really interesting or unique about this film other than it having some nice cinematography. The rest is pretty boring. But that’s just my take! Give it a look anyway.
Here’s the trailer (+ poster) for David Charbonier & Justin Powell’s horror thriller Push, from YouTube:

Haunted by the memory of her late fiancé, Natalie Flores (starring Alicia Sanz) finds herself 8 months pregnant and in desperate need of a new start. Determined to regain her sense of self again, she moves to America and uses her real estate license to take on a challenging listing. However, she soon discovers her new beginning may be a deadly end when she catches the eye of a sadistic killer (Raúl Castillo) who’s at her open house. After becoming stranded inside the property, Natalie suddenly falls into premature labor, starting a physiological ticking clock as she must find a way to escape before she gives birth. Push is co-written and co-directed by the filmmakers David Charbonier & Justin Douglas Powell, directors of the films The Boy Behind the Door and The Djinn previously, plus a few shorts. It’s produced by Ryan Scaringe. This initially premiered at the 2024 Sitges Film Festival last year. Shudder will debut Charbonier & Powell’s Push film streaming on Shudder starting July 11th, 2025 coming up this summer. Anyone want to watch?

Full US Trailer for ‘The Sparrow in the Chimney’ Swiss Family Drama
by Alex Billington
June 20, 2025
Source: YouTube

“Why are there no locks on the doors?” Film Movement has revealed an official trailer for a Swiss film titled The Sparrow in the Chimney, also known as Der Spatz im Kamin in German. It’s the latest feature from acclaimed Swiss writer & director Ramon Zücher, also of the creepy The Girl and The Spider before this. Karen and Markus live with their children in Karen’s parents’ house. Karen’s sister Jule travels with her family to Markus’ birthday party. While Karen takes everyone’s breath away with her domineering manner, Jule is the complete opposite. Gradually a front forms against Karen until everything escalates into a fiery inferno. An inferno that destroys the old to create the new. Described as a “darkly engrossing psychodrama of pent-up domestic tensions” with a “venomously comedic touch.” The film stars Maren Eggert and Britta Hammelstein as Karen and Jule, plus Luise Heyer, Andreas Döhler, & Milian Zerzawy. This guy’s films are always so weird and twisted and trippy, fascinating filmmaking with domestic drama stories.
Here’s the US trailer (+ poster) for Ramon Zürcher’s film The Sparrow in the Chimney, from YouTube:

Karen (Maren Eggert) lives with her husband Markus and their children in her idyllic childhood home. Karen’s sister Jule (Britta Hammelstein) and her family are visiting for Markus’ birthday. The two women could not be more different. Grim reminders of their deceased mother incite Jule’s rebellion against her domineering sister. As the house gradually fills with life and a sparrow in the chimney seeks a way out to freedom, Karen becomes increasingly tense – until it all comes to a head and the old is destroyed to make room for the new. The Sparrow in the Chimney, also known as Der Spatz im Kamin in German, is written and directed by Swiss filmmaker Ramon Zürcher, also director of The Strange Little Cat and The Girl and the Spider previously, plus other shorts. Produced by Silvan Zürcher. This initially premiered at the 2024 Locarno Film Festival last year. Film Movement will debut Zürcher’s The Sparrow in the Chimney in select US theaters starting August 1st, 2025 this summer. For details visit their official site. Anyone interested?
