“A cautionary tale about ambition… and obsession.” Adult Swim has revealed their official trailer for a new animated series titled Women Wearing Shoulder Pads, the unique creation from Cinema Fantasma (of Frankelda’s Book of Spooks) and the mind of Ecuadorian writer Gonzalo Cordova, who worked on “Tuca & Bertie” as a writer before this. A wealthy Spanish woman from Ecuador navigates the complicated world of love, family, commercials, and cuyes. She travels to Ecuador to breed guinea pigs for profit, but her life is soon complicated by a mysterious stalker. The new series is a completely stop-motion animated series. “The initial idea came from Cordova’s move to the U.S. at age 5 and his estrangement from the practice of people eating guinea pigs.” Wait, what?! This is is Williams Street’s first Spanish-language original project. With the voices of Pepa Pallarès, Gabriela Cartol, Kerygma Flores, Nina Torres, Michelle Rodriguez. This looks like a truly wacky one-of-a-kind series! Only something Adult Swim could make, that is for sure.
Here’s the first trailer for Gonzalo Cordova’s series Women Wearing Shoulder Pads, from YouTube:
The stop-motion series follows Marioneta (voiced by Pepa Pallarès), a proud wealthy Spaniard living in 1980s Quito, Ecuador. There she encounters a diverse group of eccentric and ambitious women navigating the complicated worlds of love, family, and cuys. Featuring an all-woman cast, Women Wearing Shoulder Pads is produced entirely in Spanish and includes English subtitles. Women Wearing Shoulder Pads is a series created and written by Ecuadorian writer / producer Gonzalo Cordova, also a writer on the other series “Tuca & Bertie” and “Fired on Mars” previously. With episodes directed by Fernanda G. Manzur and Mireya Mendoza. Produced by Cinema Fantasma. Animated by Williams Street for Adult Swim. Executive produced by Arturo Ambriz and Roy Ambriz. Adult Swim will debut Cordova’s Women Wearing Shoulder Pads animated series on TV starting August 17th at midnight on Adult Swim. Anyone want to watch this?
